State of Montana Financial Compliance Associate Auditor in Helena, Montana

Overview: The Legislative Audit Division (LAD) is seeking financial compliance auditors. Directed by the Legislative Auditor, LAD is responsible for auditing Montana state agencies and programs. Qualifications: A successful candidate has: * a bachelor’s degree by start of employment * 6 semester hours (or equivalent quarter hours) of relevant upper division accounting coursework, including intermediate accounting courses. Other combinations of education may be considered. * analytical and critical thinking skills * sound written and verbal communication skills * ability to work well independently and within a team setting * good interpersonal skills Preference will be given to candidates that have already taken, or intend to sit for, the CPA exam. Responsibilities: On a daily basis, auditors: * interview agency staff * test controls and account balances * use analytics to evaluate transactions * come to conclusions on assigned audit work * work collaboratively with team members * test compliance with federal regulations and state laws Salary and Benefits: The salary is $54,924 negotiable based on experience.Benefits include a state contribution to a retirement fund, paid vacation and sick leave, and $12,648 per year towards health, life, dental, and vision insurance. Helena: The capital of Montana and hub of state government, Helena combines the amenities of a large city with a charming and historic downtown district. With accessibility to trail systems, hiking trails, golf courses, numerous lakes, state parks, public lands, and Great Divide ski resort, there are plenty of activities in both summer and winter months. Helena has an excellent school system as well as a variety of parks, playgrounds, and green spaces. Special Information: A criminal records background check will be required as a condition of employment. Employees of the Legislative Audit Division and members of their household are not allowed to purchase tickets in any lottery games affiliated with the Montana State Lottery.
