State of Montana Financial Compliance Senior Auditor in Helena, Montana

Overview: The Legislative Audit Division (LAD) is seeking a senior financial-compliance auditor. Directed by the Legislative Auditor, LAD is responsible for auditing Montana state agencies and programs. A senior financial-compliance auditor will lead a team of auditors to work collaboratively to evaluate transactions, test controls and account balances, and test compliance with federal regulations and state laws, to reach conclusions on assigned audit work. A Senior Financial-Compliance Auditor has: * a bachelor’s degree by start of employment * 6 semester hours(or equivalent quarter hours) of relevant upper division accounting coursework * a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, which must include at least 2 years of audit related experience. Audit related experience could include, but is not limited to: identifying financial or programmatic risks within an organization; identifying if and where processes are not working as they should and advising on changes to be made; ensuring procedures, policies, legislation and regulations are correctly followed; researching standards to determine whether processes and procedures meet applicable requirements; or reviewing financial and nonfinancial data to meet an objective. Other relevant experience could include, but is not limited to, governmental accounting or program operations, grant accounting, banking, or finance positions. * Other combinations of experience and education may be considered. * Preference will be given to candidates who have governmental auditing experience, and/or have an active CPA license or are actively seeking a CPA license. Knowledge and Skills: A Senior Financial-Compliance Auditor has the ability to: * Supervise teams of two to four auditors as assigned * Lead audits and/or run projects * Think analytically and critically * Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing * Work well independently and within a team setting * Provide technical assistance and guidance to other audit staff * Perform audit procedures over a variety of programs and activities, both state and federal * Gather relevant and appropriate audit evidence * Analyze audit evidence and draw conclusions * Develop and maintain professional relationships with state agency and branch staff * Work in a changing environment including changes of team members, audit assignments, and audit locations. A Senior Financial-Compliance Auditor also exhibits: * Good interpersonal skills * Team leadership skills * Strong organizational and detailed documentation skills * General knowledge of applicable audit and accounting standards * General knowledge of statistical sampling principles, practices, and procedures Salary and Benefits: The minimum salary for a senior financial-compliance auditor is $59,400. Salary is negotiable based on experience. Benefits include a state contribution to a retirement fund, paid vacation and sick leave, and $12,648 per year towards health, life, dental, and vision insurance. Helena: The capital of Montana and hub of state government, Helena combines the amenities of a large city with a charming and historic downtown district. With accessibility to trail systems, hiking trails, golf courses, numerous lakes, state parks, public lands, and Great Divide ski resort, there are plenty of activities in both summer and winter months. Helena has an excellent school system as well as a variety of parks, playgrounds, and green spaces. Special Information: A criminal records background check is required as a condition of employment.
