The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Office of Legal Affairs. This position is responsible for providing legal support to and representation for the Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS). As a Lawyer for DPHHS you will support the Department's mission to improve and protect the health, well-being, and self-reliance of all Montanans throughout every stage of their life by delivering quality legal services to DPHHS program. In this position you will be responsible for responding to requests for legal advice and guidance from departmental program staff and leadership by providing verbal and written legal advice and opinions. Provide legal support to program staff throughout the administrative review process or proceedings. Qualifications for this Career Opportunity * * * Ability to maintain a positive, professional, and effective working relationships. * Knowledge of legal analysis principles, practices, and theories. * Ability to analyze difficult legal problems and synthesize a course of action. * Knowledge of legal research methods and techniques, including use of LEXIS, Westlaw, and the internet. * Ability to develop a level of confidence between themselves and legal clients. * Meet minimum qualifications: Lawyer 1: o Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school. o Three years of legal experience. o Admission to practice law in Montana, or admission within one year from the date of hire. Preferred: o Knowledge of healthcare law or areas of law relevant to DPHHS programs. o Knowledge of the legislative process. o Knowledge of administrative review procedures, all aspects of the Montana Administrative Procedures Act (MAPA), and judicial review procedures. * * * * Lawyer 2: o Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school. o Five years of legal experience. o Admission to practice law in Montana, or admission within one year from the date of hire. o Knowledge of healthcare law or areas of law relevant to DPHHS programs. o Knowledge of the legislative process. o Knowledge of employment and labor law. Additional Information This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy. This position may be eligible for a statutory 4% an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2024. * * This position may be eligible for moving and relocation reimbursement.
