State of Montana Native Entrepreneur Development Specialist in Helena, Montana

About this Position Business MT’s goal is to be the lead business development division for the State of Montana by supporting business growth and the prosperity of Montana communities. Our mission is to retain, expand and attract businesses that provide an economic impact for Montana communities through public/private partnerships, leveraged funding and support of economic opportunities for Montana businesses and entrepreneurs. The Business MT Division administers programs that provide technical assistance (finance, marketing, export, planning) and financial assistance (grants and loans) to Montana’s businesses with specific emphasis on projects that have business development, growth of revenue and job creation opportunities. The position is responsible for the development of Native businesses through financial and technical assistance, networking, and statewide and community-based partnerships. This position enhances the ability of the Montana Department of Commerce and Indian Country Economic Development (ICED) to deliver and be responsive to targeted Indian business needs statewide. The position coordinates the resources and expertise necessary to deliver these services. The program coordinates with national, regional and state business development resources that seek to provide technical assistance and capital access to Native American start-up and existing business clients. This position is under the ICED Program and is supervised by position # 05178. Essential Functions: * Develops standards, edits, seeks approval, revises as needed, and publishes formal program guidelines as needed for the Indian Equity Fund (IEF) and Native American Business Advisor (NABA) programs. * Performs grant contract management duties including preparation, negotiation, performance monitoring, payment, record-keeping, and records management duties for contracts between the Department of Commerce and grantees, administers the grant application, application review and approval process for programs. * Brokers relationships between tribal communities and industry partners via network bridging, product presentations and trainings which may include but are not limited to community development organizations, financial institutions, Small Business Development Centers, and Indian community development organizations * Serves as the Indian Entrepreneur Development liaison in the Montana Office of Tourism and Business Development for tribal member businesses, tribal business technical assistance, and private sector finance programs located within the eight tribal nations in Montana What are we looking for? Education and Experience: * A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Marketing, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field with coursework in marketing and business administration. * 2-5 year ofexperience including business development and marketing experience * Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. * It would pique our interest if you had experience working with tribal communities Competencies: Knowledge of: * Principles and practices of business administration * Economic development practices * Native American culture and perspective on business issues * State and Federal grant management Ability to: * Establish effective working relationships with department personnel, state officials, local businesses and community leaders, tribal members and leaders, and the public. * Deal effectively with cross-cultural differences, gain the confidence of businesses, government and tribal leaders. * Develop and interpret program policies and procedures; analyze and interpret financial/technical information How to apply Apply online by submitting yourresume.
