State of Montana Pesticide Container Recycling Driver in Helena, Montana

The Montana Department of Agriculture is accepting applications for a/_Pesticide Container Recycling Driver,_/ located in Helena, MT. The mission of the Department of Agriculture is to protect producers and consumers, and to enhance and develop agriculture and allied industries. _Job Overview_: This position operates the pesticide container mobile recycling unit consisting of a large truck and trailer combination, generator, and grinder. The incumbent will travel throughout the state collecting and processing plastic pesticide containers while coordinating with recycling site managers about pick-up dates and times. This is a seasonal position that operates May-November, weather depending. _Drive, Collect, and Maintain:_ * Operates a medium duty, single axle diesel tractor, a 48' flatbed drop deck trailer, diesel engine powered generator, an industrial granulator and blower/separator system, a forklift, manual pallet jacks, and various hand power tools. * Maintains all assigned equipment and is responsible for arranging maintenance service intervals, tire maintenance, and any other necessary repairs. It is expected that all but the most minimal maintenance items will be accomplished by outside professionals. * Collects prepared pesticide containers and ensures that containers are prepared correctly for recycling. * Enters recycling data into a provided tablet and keeps accurate records for travel and truck maintenance. _Coordinate, Communication, and Outreach:_ * Coordinate pesticide container pick-ups with collection site managers. * Communicates with site managers about site issues such as dirty containers, site maintenance, and container enclosures. * Often works with farmers, commercial pesticide applicators, and several county weed districts while loading plastic containers onto the truck, which requires excellent customer service skills. * Multitasks while traveling around MT. Tasks include keeping his/her calendar up to date, taking phone calls and scheduling pick-ups. * Responsible for scheduling and verifying travel routes and hotel stays; and communicating this information with internal personnel. _Physical and Environmental Demands:_ * All employees are required to create and maintain a safe and secure working environment by adhering to MDA safety, security and health requirements; as well as attend any necessary training and implement best practices in order to mitigate injury, illness, and loss prevention. * Travel across Montana to perform work up to 90% of the time. Weekly, multiple overnight stays will be required. * Job duties performed while wearing personal protective equipment including hearing and eye protection, coveralls, and boots that can sustain pesticides and pesticide residues. * Position requires standing, bending, and stooping repeatedly and for long periods of time. Repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required. Long periods of sitting will result from driving long distances throughout Montana. * Many sites are quite remote, and others are in industrial environments such as landfills, recycling centers, and agricultural supply facilities. Must be able to work safely in these locations without support or accompaniment. _Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:_ * Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. * Initiative to work in a self-directed and proactive manner. * Well-developed commercial driving knowledge and skilled in driving in all weather conditions that may be encountered in Montana, including putting chains on the truck in snowy conditions. * Competent in using and maintaining a variety of hand tools and large equipment such generators and granulators. * Knowledge of safety practices and how to implement them around large equipment. * Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality work output. * Adapts to change in the work environment, manages competing priorities, and deals with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events. _Minimum Qualification__:_ * 3-5 years of commercial driving experience. * Experience with operating and maintaining large, heavy equipment. _Preferred:_ * Over 5 years of commercial driving experience. _Special Requirements__:_ * Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL). * Hearing test (paid by the agency). * Physical (paid by the agency). * CPR and First Aid Certification (paid by the agency). *Job: Transportation *Title: *Pesticide Container Recycling Driver Location: Helena Requisition ID: 21141791
