Job Overview

We are currently seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, and experienced individual for the Senior Manager, Compensation position. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of compensation principles, as well as experience with market data analysis and reporting. The Senior Manager, Compensation, will be responsible for advisory services, financial reporting, and compensation data management. Advisory services include market Pricing new jobs and leveling jobs and employees, finding creative solutions to compensation issues and ongoing support for compensation questions from individual employees, HR, and the business. Financial Reporting includes the aptitude to liaise with the Finance Planning & Accounting teams and to understand their requirements for reporting, typically related to personnel budget analysis and accruals. Compensation data management includes market data survey submission and applying market data to the HR systems such as Workday and Payfactors. This role may also support specific functional areas at year end.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with data for existing positions. Review the vacancy tracker and identify existing job profiles and provide market pricing for the TA team. Create new job profiles and grades as needed within Workday. This role will require a deep understanding of market data, as well as the ability to work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders pricing of new jobs, as well as the ongoing review and adjustment of market.

  • Build a process and maintain the accuracy and reliability of our compensation data. Conduct data audits and identify and correct data errors. Work with HR and other stakeholders to maintain the accuracy and reliability of compensation data.

  • Investigate and provide answers for compensation related questions. This includes identifying and resolving data errors and ensuring that the data is accurate and complete.

  • Liaise with the Finance team on requirements and reporting requests.

  • Ad Hoc projects - Sumitomo pharma is considered a new company, and therefore there are many ad-hoc requests that will come up in the first year of operations.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Current experience with Workday Compensation module and working knowledge of Workday Advanced Comp are required for the role.

  • MS Excel skills are required for the role – (pivot, VLOOKUP, sum/countifs, formulas, nested formulas)

  • Knowledge of PayFactors a plus but not required.

  • Demonstrates understanding of annual base salary practices, short-term and long-term incentive planning, and experience running a year-end bonus process.

  • Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles; Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results; assumes accountability for results which may impact function.

  • Builds partnerships and collaborates effectively with internal and external contacts at all organizational levels.

  • Possesses above average attention to detail – candidates who bring this point up confidently will be among the first considered.

  • Possesses above average project management skills and can keep the compensation team organized and prioritized based on the team’s objectives.

  • Presents on compensation topics to the broader HR team and attends other functional team meetings to spread knowledge on SMPA compensation process and philosophy.

  • Digitally savvy and comfortable with technology tools

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of related HR, rewards and compensation expertise or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

The base salary range for this role is $128,900 to $169,200. Base salary is part of our total rewards package which also includes the opportunity for merit-based salary increases, short incentive plan participation, eligibility for our 401(k) plan, medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances and leaves provided in line with your work state. Our robust time-off policy includes unlimited paid time off, 11 paid holidays plus additional time off for a shut-down period during the last week of December, 80 hours of paid sick time upon hire and each year thereafter. Total compensation, including base salary to be offered, will depend on elements unique to each candidate, including candidate experience, skills, education and other factors permitted by law.
