At Helena Public schools, our vision is to foster dynamic educational experiences that prepare all students for life. As a vital part of our teaching staff, you will work as part of a team of 70 serving 8,000 students and 18 campuses across Helena to foster a student’s growth to overcome challenges and excel in their education. We are seeking a dedicated professional to serve at one of our eleven elementary schools, two middle schools or two high schools. As a teacher of students with hearing impairment, you promote the whole child - social, emotional, and academic well-being – in all facets of school life. Entry salary is $41,615+/yr depending upon education and experience.

Some of what you will do:

  • Apply knowledge of special education methodologies to oversee assigned special needs classroom and create individual and group programs for each student to enhance their developmental, intellectual and academic needs.

  • Teach students how to recognize and manage their emotions, access help when they need it, and learn problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

  • Develop academic pathways for student programs.

  • Implement restorative practices when students act out.

  • Collaborate with specialists to create holistic intervention and individual education plans.

  • Keep individual student records up to date.

  • Complete academic assessments and reports findings.

    Who we are looking for: Our ideal candidate has a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with special education and hearing impairment education, a current State of MT teaching license and prior experience working with students with special needs. The successful candidate has the ability to safely work with escalated students who may hit, kick, bite and scratch during crisis intervention prevention. Essential functions of the position include the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and/or push/pull up to 100 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.
