VMware Sr. Member of Technical Staff - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Helena, Montana

VMware is looking for a Senior Member of Technical Staff to join our Workload Control Plane team as part of Cloud Platform Business Unit. In this position, you will be a part of the SAAS transformation Initiative. You will make a high impact by playing a critical role in scaling our operations and by designing and implementing scalable and concurrent system software along with a team of talented and enthusiastic engineers.

Success in the Role

To be successful in this role, you will need the ability to understand the operational aspects of a SaaS business (metrics, monitoring, serviceability) and advocate for best practices. You will also be able to understand the technical domain and share architectural and technical guidance on the full stack of WCP and Kubernetes. You are a problem solver at heart and enjoy decomposing complex problems and identifying systemic improvements in the product. This could result in design and architecture documents to support long term extensibility of code, development of new features, CI framework improvements etc. You believe in agile software development methodologies and take ownership of your code. You are passionate about operations and the unique needs of running a SaaS product. You are willing to work across the stack and mentor and grow the operations side of the business, in addition to core feature work.

Responsibilities

  • As a key player in refining our operations strategy, you drive improvements with a data driven mindset and are constantly looking for ways to improve and challenge the status quo

  • Design and implement features to enhance vSphere with Tanzu as the Kubernetes platform of choice

  • Work with cross functional teams to make our infrastructure platform easier,faster,and more productive for application developers

  • As a member of theWorkload Control Planeservices team, you will participate in on-call rotations

  • As a senior engineer driving a foundationalservice, you willwork with the relevant stakeholders to define SLI/SLOs, buildmetrics collection and monitoring capabilities,andbuild CI/CD pipelinesto continuously deliver updates to the service

  • Mentor engineers on the team and foster a culture of collaboration and problem solving

  • As a senior Engineer, you'll use your passion and drive to influence improvements across our teams

What we're looking for

  • Hands on experience with Container technologies (Docker and Kubernetes)

  • Experience contributing toopen sourceprojects

  • Experience in scalable distributed systems in Go, C++, or Java

  • Proven knowledge of operating systems

  • Strong analytical and diagnostic skills with ability to work independently

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related technical fields and 8+ years of related experience in the software industry

The hiring manager for this role is Kiran Patchigolla, Director of Engineering for Workload Control Plane. Kiran joined VMware about two years ago. Prior to this role, Kiran has spent 6 years in startups working on data platforms and more than a decade building enterprise performance management & analytics products at Oracle. Kiran leads a collaborative team which consists of engineers, tech leads and managers from multiple business units with a shared passion of enabling developers build modern apps in a multi-cloud environment.
