* *STAFF ATTORNEY LEGAL SERVICES HELENA, MT * * MISSION -Montana Department of Corrections is creating a safer Montana through Accountability, Rehabilitation and Empowerment. JOB OVERVIEW – * This position serves as a staff attorney managing a general caseload that consists of civil litigation, administrative litigation and written and oral legal advice to department staff. * Supervision and case assignments are made by the Chief Legal Counsel. * The position will be responsible for the legal services for the Director’s office, the Central Services Division, Public Safety Division, including Probation and Parole and the Department’s secure care facilities, Rehabilitation and Programs Division, Communications, as well as the Board of Pardons and Parole. * The incumbent independently handles all phases of litigation, from district court proceedings to Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. * Cases include complex litigation, e.g. constitutional law and tort cases involving significant fiscal resources. These cases frequently involve constitutional challenges, issues of first impression, and cases where the attorney must develop a factual record. * The attorney may lead a team of attorneys and support staff in complex litigation.
