Summary:

At Portal, we are building products that make it easier for people to connect with the ones they love most. The Portal Hardware TPM team seeks a Technical Program Manager, Product Design who has experience leading a cross-functional team to deliver consumer electronics and mobile products on new platforms at scale. The right candidate will possess a strong program management background, best-in-class communication skills, and a well-rounded technical understanding of mechanical design principles. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done. As the Technical Program Manager, Product Design you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make trade-offs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints.

Required Skills:

  1. Technical Program Manager for Portal Product Design team leading mechanical component development and systems integration

  2. End-to-end ownership and coordination of product design team activities from product concept through launch

  3. Lead collaboration with industrial design team and cross-functional engineering and operations teams to realize mechanical product vision

  4. Contribute to product design process and best practices for the organization

  5. Collaborate closely with the Portal manufacturing operations team and Asia-based partners

  6. Drive multiple mechanical component vendors and activities at our final assembly house from initial prototype through ramp

  7. Understand and communicate complex, technical and Engineering issues to partners

  8. Identify and resolve conflicts, inter-dependencies and program issues quickly

  9. Partner with System TPM on the program schedule, build planning, and execution

  10. International travel to suppliers

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 2+ years of hands-on engineering program management experience, driving mechanical components as an individual contributor

  2. Experience with consumer electronics design and manufacturing processes (injection molding, stamping, MIM, die cutting, CNC)

  3. Familiarity with development processes for cosmetic mechanical parts and driving qualification for CMF (color, materials finish) specifications

  4. Experience working with CM/JDM partners and component level suppliers

  5. BOM (bill of materials) set-up and management experience

  6. Understanding complex supply chains and experience to bring up new suppliers

  7. BS in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience and extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience managing FATP (final assembly test and pack-out) builds and driving PD, ID, and REL build planning

  2. Experience leading mechanical systems integration of electrical, wireless, and audio issues common in Consumer Electronics products
