Kalispell Regional Healthcare Charge Respiratory Therapist - Night Shift in Kalispell, Montana

The Charge Respiratory Therapist (RT) leads and assures quality performance of all patient care provided by the respiratory department team. This position trains staff in all clinical functions and balances time and effort between leading and performing patient care. Provides general and emergency respiratory therapy procedures to patients as directed by physicians or protocol.

Responsibilities

  1. *Performs, with high degree of competence, all aspects of respiratory care delivered at this facility. Displays clinical knowledge and manipulative skills regarding the care, operation, servicing, and repair of all Pulmonary Services equipment. Makes appropriate repairs and maintenance when required and as necessary. Brings non-functional equipment to the attention of the Respiratory Care Manager.

  2. *Ensures the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients.

  3. *Monitors the proper utilization of all Respiratory Care systems. Adjusts staffing levels to meet workload demands. Functions as a resource therapist, assisting with patient care as needed. Will carry a partial workload and/or assist with starting new patient care activity.

  4. *In collaboration with the Respiratory Care Manager/Director identifies educational programs to maintain and develop skills of respiratory care personnel.

  5. *Coordinates service, care or assisting with patient discharge planning.

  6. *Provides developmental appropriate care to support patients of all ages during their hospitalization. Demonstrates competence in the care of neonatal, pediatric, adult or frail elderly groups of patients (when/if assigned to these patients). Determines each patient's age-related and other physical, psycho social and cultural needs and carrying out-patient care activities.

  7. *Provides oversight of staff and patient care:

a. Leads huddles and shift change report.

b. Coordinates the delivery of patient care in a professional manner in compliance with hospital and respiratory care policies and procedures.

c. Determines patient assignments, and delegates duties according to appropriate patient acuity and skill mix of the staff.

d. Coordinates the staffing requirements with Respiratory Care Manager, staffing office and house supervisor based on patient acuity, productivity and policy guidelines.

e. Communicates with staff to provide immediate feedback to correct deviations from policies and procedures.

f. Communicates with the unit leaders and documents any unusual events that occurred during the shift. This shall include, but is not limited to; exceptional teamwork and professionalism, accidents, injuries, safety issues, deviations from special circumstances and variances from policy and procedures.

  1. *Provides feedback regarding staff performance for on-going staff improvement and performance evaluations. This shall include, but is not limited to the following:

a. Verbal feedback

b. Written documentation

c. Participating in staff evaluations

Qualifications

  1. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with at least two (2) years of experience in active Critical Care Unit.

  2. Montana Respiratory Care Practitioner License required.

  3. Current Healthcare provider BLS, ACLS certification required.

  4. PALS and NRP certifications preferred or obtained within one (1) year of hire.

  5. Demonstrated ability to recognize changes in the patient's condition, make independent judgments, and modify the care as necessary according to departmental standards and approved physician protocols.

  6. Demonstrated leadership skills. Effective decision maker functioning independently and proficiently. Takes initiative to evaluate and solve problems on a daily basis. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with employees, patients, physicians, and leadership.

  7. Team player. Positive attitude. Adaptable. Interacts with staff members, patients, providers and medical community in a positive and helpful manner.

  8. Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft applications and ability to learn other software as needed.
