Kalispell Regional Healthcare Child Life Specialist - Pediatrics in Kalispell, Montana


The Child Life (CL) Specialist works in health care and community settings to address the psychosocial, emotional and family concerns that accompany the illness and injury of children, adolescents and young adults. This position utilizes developmentally appropriate information, procedure support, emotional processing, play, self-expression and empowerment to improve the coping and adjustment of patients and families.


  1. *Acts as a team leader and role model to other team members. Coaches, trains, monitors, and assists with goal setting and overseeing the flow of day-to-day Collaborates with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to advocate for and ensure that developmentally appropriate, emotionally safe, family- centered care is being provided to patients and families.

  2. *Provides, develops, and implements child life services that provide in-depth support for end of life, new diagnosis, and traumatic experiences for patients and This may include therapeutic play, counseling of patient or siblings, guided imagery or education related to diagnosis and treatment. Responsible for quality improvement, professional development programs, and/or research initiatives related to Child Life Services.

  12. *Takes an active role in developing and maintaining resources, planning and facilitating special events and providing educational opportunities throughout Kalispell Regional Healthcare (KRH) and the community.


  1. Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Education or related field required.

  2. Masters of Science in Child Life or in Family and Child Studies preferred.

  3. Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) required.

  4. Minimum of three (3) years experience as a certified child life specialist in a healthcare setting preferred.

  5. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required. Must possess professional communication skills, and work effectively with a diverse patient and coworker population.

  6. Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.

  7. Understanding of the confidentiality laws that govern the provider-patient relationship, including but not limited to HIPAA guidelines.
