Kalispell Regional Healthcare Clinical Lab Scientist or Clinical Lab Technician - Medical Practice in Kalispell, Montana
Responsible for performing technical laboratory procedures on patient specimens and evaluating the accuracy and validity of results. Perform and assess quality control of procedures and preventive maintenance/troubleshooting of laboratory equipment. Position may involve exposure to infectious or caustic agents.
For Clinical Lab Scientist:
- *Perform clinical testing using a variety of automated and non-automated techniques. (Expected to stay current with Laboratory procedures, as well as, continually evaluate specimen integrity, instrument function and review values to assure quality results. Practice good lab technique, identify and analyze
problems, seek and consider alternative solutions and request clarification/ assistance as needed.)
*Participate in Quality Control (QC) and Performance Improvement (PI) activities to ensure accurate and timely reporting of results. Monitor and evaluate QC for all test results according to established protocols. Follow through on troubleshooting and problem solving, provide documentation as required and participate in continuous improvement of operations and processes.
*Use professional judgment and effective decision-making skills in accordance with Laboratory policies and procedures. Effectively handle problems or unusual/difficult situations with specimens, co-workers or customers and request assistance when appropriate.
*Call and document critical values according to Laboratory Policy.
Use effective oral and written communication skills, such as organized, legible documentation of activities, participate in one-on-one and group discussions and communicate effectively with co-workers to assure uninterrupted resulting of testing to provide quality patient care.
Maintain competency in computer skills. Accurately order and/or cancel results and comment in the LIS. Ensure correct patient identification.
Perform testing in a timely manner and prioritize/ organize routine, timed and STAT work.
Monitor condition, care and maintenance of equipment. Document problems and service calls completely. Effectively communicate potential problems and relevant information regarding instrumentation.
Perform any necessary high complexity testing as required including, but not limited to, manual differential reviews, review of urine culture growth and identification of pathogens and quantitative semen analysis.
Assist in the training of staff in the following areas, phlebotomy (adult and pediatric), rapid kit and correct use of the EMR for ordering laboratory tests.
For Clinical Lab Technician:
* Perform clinical patient testing using a variety of automated and non-automated technologies. ( Stay current with and perform lab procedures on an annual basis; continually evaluate specimen integrity, patient/specimen identification, instrument function and practice good lab technique at every stage; request clarification and assistance as needed.)
*Participate in Quality Control and Quality Management (informal Performance Improvement included) activities to ensure accurate and timely reporting of results. (Monitor and evaluate QC for all test results according to established protocols, provide documentation and Meditech comments as required, participate in QM studies in a variety of departments, and contribute to improvement of operations and process.)
*Use effective oral and written communications skills; contribute to a functional and positive staff culture. ( Provide organized, legible documentation of activities, effective in one-on-one communications and group meetings, maintain a positive attitude,communicate effectively with coworkers to assure uninterrupted resulting of tests and providing quality customer service and patient care and embrace KRMC Values R.I.S.E.).
*Use professional judgment, perform critical thinking, triaging and organizing of work and work area for best flow and utilize effective decision-making skills. ( Work efficiently as a professional, handle problems or unusual/difficult situations with specimens, co-workers or customers, identify and troubleshoot problems, seek and consider alternative solutions and request assistance when appropriate.)
*Perform accreditation-related tasks. (Perform Competencies assigned via CAP Competency Program and perform Proficiency Testing assigned by each department Supervisor.)
*Maintain competency in computer skills. ( Accurately order tests, cancel tests, verify results and add comments to patient results in the LISandpull up electronic procedures contained within Table of Contents in each department.)
*Perform testing in a timely manner. (Effective in handling workload and workflow, demonstrate the ability to set priorities, effectively organize and run routine, timed, and STAT work, maintain efficiency with specimen, avoid batching specimens in areas of large volume and handoff work to others at shift change.)
*Call and document Critical Values according to Laboratory policy.
Complete documentation as required in each department. Organize, perform and result tests to meet expected turnaround times.
Contribute to procedures and policies as needed and assist with writing and revisions by Supervisors. Train new employees/student or other projects as assigned.
For Clinical Lab Scientist:
Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or one of the related sciences.
Completion of an accredited ASCP Medical Technology intern training program.
Montana State license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
For Clinical Lab Technician:
A minimum of an Associate degree in Medical Technology or one of the related sciences.
Completion of an accredited Medical technician intern training program.
Montana State license as a Clinical Laboratory Technician.
