$12.00 - $15.00 depending on education and experience, 40 hours per week, benefit-eligible

The Financial Aid Specialist provides one-on-one assistance regarding financial aid to assist and support students achieve in college.

Performs as primary point of contact and provides information regarding financial aid opportunities and other student services to prospective students and their families.
Provides quality customer service in a professional, helpful, and courteous manner.
Analyzes complex student situations with students regarding Satisfactory Academic Progress, eligibility, and FAFSA information against their tax returns and supporting documentation.
Assists with monitoring admissions information of aid applicants for completeness and monitoring of student files.
Develops and updates our annual forms and publications for accuracy, ease of use, and processing flow.
Maintains the financial aid webpages and ensures the pages are updated with current information and forms.
Performs a variety of clerical duties including but not limited to handling communications, various filing responsibilities, bulk mailing duties, address changes, processing mail, managing office supplies, and maintenance of administrative records.
Maintains and processes confidential student records.
Maintains an accurate recordkeeping and organizational system.
Works closely and cooperatively with campus departments, faculty, and staff on program matters, academic calendar dates and deadlines, and other college related compliance matters.
Participates actively and with initiative in continuous improvement efforts, including capitalizing on technical solutions to provide efficient and quality services.
Establishes timelines and initiates effective and timely communications to assure sharing of information.
Cross trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for staff as needed.
Works collaboratively and actively participates in a climate that promotes and supports innovation and improved services to students, faculty, and the community.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to the Financial Aid Director.

Associate’s degree AND one year of financial/customer service work experience; OR,
High School degree or equivalent and three years of financial or customer service related work experience; OR,
An equitable combination of three years of higher education AND/OR financial or customer service work experience.

Experience working with financial aid programs and software systems
Experience working with federal tax returns, W-2s, 1099s, and other related documents
Higher education course work

Skill in providing quality customer service to all customers. This includes in person, over the phone, and using electronic communications
Skill working under deadlines with high degree of attention to detail and accuracy
Ability and willingness to serve as a representative for the College by interacting appropriately with the public, students, potential students, and College community
Demonstrated skill in creating and managing a work climate of collaboration, collegiality, and teamwork
Ability to be adaptive in a continuously changing and fast paced environment
Skill and ability to operate a variety of computer applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office and information systems
Skill and ability with general office practices and procedures
Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC
Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships with staff, students, and public
Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and be FERPA compliant
Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels
Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check
Ability to respond in the event of an emergency
This is a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects
