Kalispell Regional Healthcare Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) - COVID Isolation ICU in Kalispell, Montana

Provides customer service, clerical support, and monitoring of the patient heart monitors for Critical Care patients and for patients on heart monitors throughout the facility as ordered by the providers. The CCHUC supports the health care team with heart alarm interpretations, entering computerized orders, maintaining paper charts with any pertinent patient information, and completes admission/discharge data entry. This position serves adult, geriatric and pediatric populations.

Responsibilities

  1. *Performs clerical and technical skills in an organized and accurate manner according to hospital policies and procedures.

  2. *Enters orders into Meditech. Completes essential clerical patient care functions as requested.

  3. *Maintains accurate patient charts and files any paper reports or documents received in a timely manner.

  4. *Documents patient arrival and discharge times with accurate data entry. Collaborates with the healthcare team to secure follow up for discharging patients. Performs patient chart discharge process and paper disbursement in a timely manner.

  5. *Reports ongoing patient/customer needs to the healthcare team.

  6. *Maintains close surveillance of patient cardiac telemetry monitor screens for patient deviations from initial daily baseline reports. Maintains limited break in visual contact with the monitors and must not leave the monitors unattended without obtaining appropriate coverage.

  7. *Runs initial cardiac baseline strips, prints strips and places in designated location.

  8. *Responds to telemetry monitor alarms, determines if baseline deviations occur, and contacts nurse for patient care as needed. May call a CODE Blue for assistance when required. Documents patient cardiac monitor alarms.

  9. *Demonstrates the ability to work with the healthcare team to set and maintain patient care and work priorities and responds to a changing workload. Adheres and upholds all organizational customer service policies and standards while caring for patients, their families and interacting with all members of the healthcare team.

  10. *Assists the healthcare team in maintaining unit function. These job functions include, but are not limited to:

a. Restocking of rooms and supply areas.

b. Maintaining the equipment in the patient care rooms for the safety and cleanliness of the patient and co-workers.

c. Assists the healthcare team in maintaining compliance with Medicare and all applicable regulatory standards.

d. Answers the phones and monitors the security door in the intensive care unit and interacts with the public.

  1. *Demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to job duties.

  2. *Demonstrates cost containment with all resources.

Qualifications

  1. Post high school education or vocational training in healthcare preferred. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  2. Knowledge of record keeping, documentation, filing, and basic office procedures required.

  3. Must successfully obtain Telemetry Certification offered by KRMC within three (3) months of employment.

  4. Current Healthcare Provider BLS Certification required.

  5. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required.

  6. Must be detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess ability to set priorities and function as part of a team. Must use good judgment, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

  7. Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn other software as needed. Previous experience with electronic medical record (EMR) programs preferred.

  8. Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
