Job Objective: Responsible for coordinating the scheduling of all patient exams, verifies exams, and assists with accompanying documentation utilizing department computer system.
*Demonstrates knowledge of department scheduling and requisition routing procedures.
*Accurately schedules exams for the proper modality, time, machine, technologist and Radiologist; together with the needs of the patient and referring physician.
*Effectively explains preps (actions a patient must take for a proper exam) to the patient, using terms the patient can understand. Verifies patient understands all prep instructions.
*Works efficiently with department personnel to expedite patient flow by processing requisitions and orders in a timely manner.
*Communicates effectively when emergency or “add-on” exams occur.
*Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks, using appropriate critical decision making.
*Works efficiently and calmly under conditions of stress and in times of high patient volume or additional workload.
*Maintains a helpful and courteous attitude towards patients, referring physicians, and co-workers.
*Assumes responsibility for reading and understanding all posted policies and memos.
*Demonstrates a commitment to professionalism while undertaking all tasks and in all interactions with providers, staff members and patients.
*Works cooperatively with patient billing and the pre-registration departments in reducing duplicate accounts.
*Takes ownership of all customer queries and proactively follows through to resolution.
Medical Terminology preferred.
Previous hospital or radiology computer experience preferred.
Ability to accurately type 50 wpm preferred.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, required.
Ability to communicate effectively and maintain cooperative relationships with providers, staff members and patients. Ability to answer and place calls in a kind and professional manner.
Ability to make independent judgments and reflect compassion in a fast paced environment under stressful situations at times. Must work in planned manner without direct supervision.
Must be detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess ability to set priorities and function as part of a team. Possess ability to use good judgment, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
