Kalispell Regional Healthcare Lead, Patient Financial Clearance in Kalispell, Montana

Overview

This position provides daily leadership for the Patient Financial Advising staff. Patient Financial Advisors (PFAs) work with patients and families discussing financial responsibility and options available for payment of services. PFAs provide learning opportunities for patients and families about Financial Assistance and application process. PFAs assist patients in navigating The MarketPlace during insurance open enrollment periods and provide patients with estimated out-of-pocket charges for specific services being rendered.

Responsibilities

  1. *Leads and coordinates all daily operational aspects of assigned Kalispell Regional Healthcare (KRH) Patient Financial Clearance Section. Leads staff in a respectful, positive and collaborative manner in keeping with the policies of KRH. Inspires staff to exceptional customer service and professionalism by example, training and motivation. Provides feedback to Manager as appropriate.

  2. *Reviews individual team member’s performance against section’s daily goals and expectations for assigned duties to include, but not limited to; cash collection, number of patients pre-registered, volume of Financial Assistance applications processed, quality of work, etc.

  3. *Creates various reports in support of Patient Access and Revenue Cycle.

  4. *Performs staff scheduling according to hours of operation and volumes. Prioritizes and disseminates work assignments. Maintains ability to perform job duties of individuals in assigned department.

  5. *Performs and oversees the training of new staff. Monitors progress. Audits registrations at regular intervals for new and established staff members.

  6. *In collaboration with Leadership, assists with the hiring process and preparation and delivery of evaluations and corrective action on staff.

  7. *Reviews Financial Assistance applications and administers program in accordance with document policies and practices. Posts financial assistance adjustments into A/R.

  8. *Assists with system testing for upgrades, implementations, etc. Implements, coordinates and supports a consistent process throughout all hospitals and clinics.

  9. *Addresses more complex processing customer service issues and communicates directly with client.

  10. *Administers and oversees pharmaceutical assistance programs in conjunction with policies and procedures.

  11. *Works proficiently in multiple areas where PFAs are located including the hospital, patient bedside and in the Financial Clearance center.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum three (3) years’ experience in Patient Accounting, Financial Counseling or other applicable healthcare environment.

  2. Must possess ability to certify as a CHAA/CHAM or CRCP as appropriate within twelve (12) months of hire. Must certify as a Market Place Advisor annually prior to open enrollment period.

  3. Minimum one (1) year leadership experience preferred. Understanding of leadership best practices and proactive team/individual development and conflict resolution.

  4. Comprehensive knowledge of Patient Access and healthcare financial counseling industry standards including HIPAA. Comprehensive understanding of federal program regulations and the identification of proper insurance entry and use.

  5. Proficient with computers including Microsoft Office and spreadsheets required. Possess the ability to learn other software as needed. Good understanding of the Revenue Cycle and software systems supporting it.

  6. Proficient with basic accounting principles and mathematical computations including percentages required. Ten Key by touch preferred.

  7. Strong customer service skills, professional phone etiquette and ability to multi-task in a fast pace environment. Must possess professional communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as work effectively with a diverse customer and coworker population.

  8. Must possess experience in building and supporting strong teamwork and collaborative, respectful communication. Demonstrated ability to resolve issues using critical thinking skills. Models customer service excellence and champions the same with staff. Ability to navigate change in a positive and professional manner
