Job Description
Position Purpose
The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, facilitate, schedule, and implement recreation and wellness programs that address the six domains of wellness. In addition, this position manages and maintains a transportation system that meets the needs of residents, as well as assists with maintenance of Terraces’ vehicles, in accordance with Department of Transportation regulations.

Specific Duties
Plan, implement, and supervise recreational and social programs that promote quality of life and address the six needs of wellness (physical, spiritual, social, psychological, emotional, and vocation) of residents in a proficient and cost effective manner
Assist in designing, scheduling, and implementing a monthly schedule of recreation programs and activities
Contact, schedule, and oversee utilization of community resources
Assist residents in facilitating monthly resident council meetings, recreation planning, and other empowerment programs as deemed appropriate and necessary
Maintain responsibility for the continued evaluation of recreation programs, adjusting programs ongoing to meet needs and interests of residents
Conduct Recreation Evaluations for residents
Develop and generate the resident newsletter and Senior TV posters that promote general communication, related to facility events
Assist in developing, writing, and publishing the monthly Recreation Calendar
Be responsible for quality recreation and social programming for Assisted Living residents
Assess and address modifications and adaptations for residents to assist them in meeting their maximum potential
Work cooperatively with Director of Resident Services to facilitate special events and promote community awareness
Serve as a confidant to residents and offer social and emotional support within the scope of practice; make referrals, as appropriate, to Immanuel Living Social Workers or Chaplain
Be knowledgeable of individual resident preferences, strengths, and needed adaptations for involvement in structured group activities and programs
Work cooperatively with Immanuel Living Volunteer Manager to enrich the Retreat community life through volunteer participation in group activities
Work closely with other staff members to coordinate the attendance of residents at activities
Exhibit flexibility with changes in programming, events, etc., based on current research, situations, feedback, and growth of the department
Assist residents on a one-on-one with a wide variety of problems / concerns
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or GED preferred
Experience with and knowledge of special populations, including general geriatrics, dementia, physical abilities, etc. required
At least one (1) year working experience in the field of recreation and/or activities in a long-term care setting; however, this may be substituted with additional education or work experience with the approval of the Recreation & Wellness Manager.
Professional Licenses or Certifications Required by Law
Current CPR and First Aid certifications or willingness to become certified
Exercise Instructor Certification by Senior Fitness Association or other fitness instructor certification, as approved by the Director of Resident Services or willingness to become certified
Essential Physical and Mental Requirements
The incumbent must be at least 21 years of age, due to CDL regulations.
The incumbent must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work under time and/or deadline pressures.
Required vision abilities include close up and distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
