Location:Woodland Water ParkUnion:Non-Union Salary/Wage:$17.10 per hour, adjusted to $17.35 per hour beginning July 1, 2025FSLA Status:Non-Exempt Date:January 17, 2025A.GENERAL CLASS DESCRIPTION:Performs routine public contact and safety work in serving as a pool lifeguard.B.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:The following duties are typical for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.Note: It is expected that every employee should be on time, fully prepared, every day that they are scheduled to work. We expect employees to strive for perfect attendance.Lifeguard (90%):a.Patrols the swimming pool and aquatics facility.b.Monitors the use of the swimming pool; enforces safety rules.c.Responds to emergencies and rescues swimmers in danger of drowning.d.Performs first aid procedures.e.Tests pool participants for swimming skill ability; passes participants according to required skill for deep water swimming during open swim sessions.f.Assists in implementing various aquatics programs/activities throughout the year.g.Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as helping set up for classes, events, restocking of supplies, etc.h.Responds to public inquiries about aquatics programs.i.Maintains related records and statistics for various aquatics programs, activities and/or incidents.j.Assists in the maintenance of the swimming pool and completes daily cleaning requirements.Peripheral Duties (10%):a.Officiates at swimming meets.b.Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.c.Other duties as assigned.C.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Works under the general supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator and Recreation Programmer.D.SUPERVISION EXERCISED:NoneE.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA’s):a.Working knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive aquatics program.b.Knowledge of First Aid and CPR.c.Skilled in operation of tools and equipment used by lifeguards.d.Skilled in First Aid and CPR.e.Skilled in the observation of swimming participants and ways to avoid distractions.f.Skilled in the use of various hand tools used in the maintenance of swimming pools.g.Skilled in the use of two-way radios.h.Ability to effectively enforce safety and health regulations relating to an aquatic program.i.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, participants, instructors, and the public.j.Ability to communicate effectively orally.k.Ability to give and understand oral instructions.l.Ability to maintain calm in emergency situations.F.DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience):a.Possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguard training certification or acquire certification prior to June 9, 2025. Note: certification will be offered through Kalispell Parks and Recreation in May (date TBD).b.Any equivalent combination of education and experience.G.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED CertificationH.TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:a.Lifeguarding equipment such as, but not limited to, rescue tubes, spine boards, removal boards, CPR masks, and gloves.b.Various hand tools used in the maintenance of swimming pool equipment; pool testing equipment; phone; two-way radios.I.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:a.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
