Flathead County, MTRange: UnionJob Code: 1464SHERIFF’S OFFICE CONTROL ROOM OFFICERNATURE OF WORK:This position is responsible for overseeing/operating the detention center master control room with primary concern with surveillance within the detention security areas, monitoring inmate movements, controlling public access into the detention facility, inmate/public visiting and emergency systems, such as fire, lighting, locking systems and weapons. PURPOSE OF POSITION:Overseeing/operating detention center master control room as directed by the Detention Supervisor. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Only major tasks are identified for most positions; refer to position description for detailed listing of duties.)The person in this position will report to the Detention Supervisor. Control all public access into the detention facility and maintain log of all persons entering and leaving detention center.Monitor all inmate movement within the secure area of the detention facility.Provide surveillance, via audio/visual monitor systems of all areas within the detention center.Maintain communication with detention officers and advise them of activities within the facility.Control key locker and maintain key logs.Control and monitor all emergency alert systems.Control detention lighting and locking systems.Control inmate/public visiting and maintains visitors’ log.Control all access to detention sally ports.Greets public after normal office hours.Performs related work as assigned by Detention Command. SELECTION FACTORS: (These factors will be the basis for selecting the most qualified applicants to be interviewed. Applicants selected for employment must satisfactorily demonstrate possession of these factors during and after a prescribed probationary period for continued employment.)Ability to work various shifts, holidays and weekends; work under stressful conditions; receive and follow written/verbal instructions; make quick decisions and adapt; maintain confidentiality; complete the receiving and processing of arrested individuals; inspect inmate living quarters; write grammatically correct reports and document and transport inmates. Must have a working knowledge of computer, basic typing of 25 wpm gross. Must also meet the attached testing procedures.CONTROL CENTERPOLICYThe FCDC Control Center shall be staffed and operated in a professional and efficient manner in order to ensure a secure, controlled and safe facility as directed by the following procedures:DEFINITIONThe CONTROL CENTER means the secure room on the first floor of the FCDC which contains the surveillance monitors, sally port entrance and exit controls, systems monitoring devise, light controls, door position indicator boards, intercom systems, alarm boards, and the visiting booth controls.PROCEDUREWhen performing the duties of control center officer, the FCDC staff shall:1) Control the sally port entrances and exits for employees, auto sally port for transporting officers, and service entrance areas;2) Maintain audio/visual surveillance of outside areas, courtroom sally ports, secure elevator and other areas as necessary;3) Use the visiting console to control entrance and exits of visitors;4) Greet visitors to the Justice Center after normal hours, and request patrol officers to take complaints, etc.5) Maintain an up-to-date housing assignment board for all inmates;6) Maintain a list of all employees’ telephone numbers and keep updated as necessary;7) Issue keys to FCDC staff as needed;8) Contact other agencies for assistance as requested;9) Notify the Officer in Charge of any alarms or trouble signals from systems monitors;10) Maintain constant communication with other officers on the shift, especially during a disturbance;11) Perform a check of all communications, surveillance, and emergency systems at the beginning of each shift, including:a. Fire notifier board,b. All two-way radios,c. All surveillance monitors,d. All intercom systems, ande. Emergency generator status board.12) Ensure that the following items are kept in the control center and updated:a. A copy of the FCDC policy and procedures manual,b. A set of FCDC blueprints,c. Owner’s manual for all systems,d. A list of emergency phone numbers, i.e. fire, hospital, other law enforcement agencies, etc.13) Maintain a daily log which will include:a. Routine activities carried out,b. All persons entering or leaving the FCDC and reason,c. Visitor information,d. All information or orders issued by the Officer in Charge, Detention Supervisor, Detention Commander, etc.e. All inmates admitted to or released from the FCDC,f.
