Kalispell Regional Healthcare Shift Unit Supervisor - IMC in Kalispell, Montana

Overview

The Shift Unit Supervisor is a Registered Nurse (RN) who assumes a visible leadership role and is responsible for overseeing patient care and administrative activities in their respective units and care delivery. This is an unencumbered position who oversees day to day unit operations. This position will continually evaluate quality and effectiveness of patient care, clinical judgment, productivity, staffing, and education.

Responsibilities

  1. *Assumes a visible leadership role and is responsible for overseeing patient care and administrative activities in their respective units and care delivery. Oversees day to day unit operations.

  2. *Conducts annual performance appraisals according to HR guidelines. Provides regular, scheduled feedback to employees regarding performance. In partnership with Director, contributes to hiring, corrective action and termination decisions.

  3. *Evaluates quality and effectiveness of patient care, clinical judgment, interpersonal, and communication skills of assigned unit.

  4. *Promotes staffing compliance and ensures safe staffing assignments. Monitors staffing to achieve productivity and budget standards.

  5. *Performs within the scope and standards of practice for Registered Professional Nurses in the state (as set forth by the current State Board of Nursing regulations, the American Nurses Association, and professional organizations specific to specialty to guide practice and standards within the work place).

  6. *Develops, revises and ensures compliance with hospital/departmental policy and procedures, standards of care, and professional practice acts.

  7. *Serves as a role model by providing leadership expertise, and serves as a clinical and administrative resource to others. Provides coaching and development opportunities for assigned staff.

  8. *Serves as an advocate for the professional nursing practice and supports the work of the unit based council. Works in conjunction with the unit Director to advance the practice of nursing and the delivery of care in a coordinated, supportive way.

  9. *Provides daily oversight of staff and patient care to include, but not limited to:

  10. Coordinates delivery of patient care in a professional manner in compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures.

  11. Determines patient assignments and delegates’ duties according to appropriate patient acuity and skill mix of staff.

  12. Coordinates the staffing requirements with unit director and staffing office based on patient acuity, productivity and policy guidelines.

  13. Communicates with staff to provide immediate feedback to correct deviations.

  14. Communicates with the unit director and documents any unusual events that occur during shift. To include, but not limited to; exceptional teamwork and professionalism, accidents, injuries, safety issues, deviations from appropriate patient care, breaches in professionalism, staffing abnormalities and special circumstances and variance from policy and procedures.

Qualifications

  1. Current Montana RN License required.

  2. BSN degree preferred.

  3. Current Healthcare Provider CPR.

  4. Minimum of one (1) year current unit specific experience.

  5. Previous Charge Nurse or Supervisor experience preferred.

  6. National Certification in unit specific preferred.

  7. Possess medical/clinical knowledge and technical skills for respective department(s)/unit(s).

  8. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential components of this position.
