State of Montana Temporary Snow Plow Driver / Highway Maintenance Technician KALISPELL AREA #54197480 in Kalispell, Montana
MDT is looking for temporary snow plow drivers with heavy truck driving and equipment operation experience for winter road maintenance. This includes snow removal, cleaning the right of way, fixing guardrail, repairing fences, signs, and luminaires, traffic control and salt brine production.
Hours vary between 20-40 schedules hours per week depending on weather and the needs of the section. Shifts are either a minimum of 4 hours or 8 hours and range from 4am-11:30pm. Must be available for extended shifts, emergency weather conditions and be able to work on weekends and holidays as needed.
Season typically begins mid-November and ends in March, depending on weather.
Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions and remain focused and seated for extended periods of time.
Must be able to perform moderate physical activity in lifting, carrying, and/or operating the tools and equipment.

Currently we have positions in the following locations:
Requires knowledge of highway maintenance and equipment typically assigned to a section, including basic diesel/gasoline vehicle maintenance; one (1) year experience driving heavy truck and operating construction equipment; basic math and record keeping; and the ability to make estimates of materials needed. Your experience operating heavy equipment and/or driving heavy truck, including the types of trucks and/or equipment you have operated, must be clearly detailed in the application. Computer knowledge in order to access and utilize the Remote Weather Information Sites, MMS, e-mail, and electronic forms such as accident/incident reports and time slips.
A working knowledge and understanding of the union contracts, environmental procedures, MUTCD, maintenance manual, standard drawings and traffic control operations.
Driver’s record will be verified. Successful applicants will be required to sign a release form which authorizes the Department to obtain the applicant’s permanent driving records. Compliance with Mont. Admin. R. 2.6.201, "State Vehicle Use," and MDT Policy # 3-0134, "Addendum to Risk Management and Tort Defense Division State Vehicle Use Policy" are conditions of employment.
A valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with endorsements for air brakes and tankers is required with no restriction for operating a manual transmission.
Successful applicant must live or relocate within 30 road miles of the work headquarters and must have a telephone or be reasonably accessible to the section headquarters.
This position is a union position and is being posted in accordance with the bargaining unit agreement. Non-bargaining unit employees or employees of another bargaining unit may apply.
