State of Montana Medication Aide II in Lewistown, Montana

Job Overview:The Medication Aide is responsible to administer medications to residents with mental health disorders in a State ofMontanalong term care facility under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The positions may at times be called on to perform Certified Nurse Aide duties. Essential Functions (Major Duties or Responsibilities): * A. Administers medication, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, as prescribed by the resident’s physician and documents the administration, the medication effectiveness and any noted adverse actions or side effects of the medications in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the Montana Mental Health Nursing Care Center, current standards of practice and care, and applicable State/Federal Regulations. *80% 1. Administers prescribed medication to residents and maintains related medical records under the supervision of a Registered Nurse 2. Verifies identity of resident receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, route and time of administration on the Medication Administration Record. 3. Presents medication to residents and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication using specified procedures. 4. Takes vital signs or observes resident to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated personnel. 5. Observe and report change in behavior or any other indication of adverse effects from a medication to the Registered Nurse in accordance with the current standards of practice and care and applicable state/federal regulations. 6. Monitors medications to ensure adequate accountability measures are administered as required by policies and procedures of the MMHNCC and applicable state/federal regulations. 7. Routinely inspects, cleans and monitors equipment and supplies to ensure resident safety. 8. Demonstrates awareness of proper infection control practice by using Standard Precautions. 9 Communicates to residents, staff and others in an accurate and factual manner and seeks clarification from or refers questions to Registered Nurse when indicated. 10. Report any and all medication errors immediately to the Registered Nurse/Charge Nurse. 11. When not actively dispensing medications or preparing medications, certified medication aides may revert to the duties they share with other certified nursing assistants as assigned. B. Provides personal care to male and female residents to meet basic physical needs and promote self esteem, following MMHNCC policies, procedures, and established guidelines. 20% 1. Personal Care: a. Performs or assists with range of motion, ambulation, repositioning and transfer. b. Performs or assists residents with bathing, dining, grooming. c. Promptly answers residents call lights. d. Collects specimens from residents for analysis, following facility practice under the directions of the nurse. e. Records nursing data as directed. f. Restrains residents for safety following detailed procedures.. g. Recognizes, reports, and appropriately responds when a resident is experiencing symptoms of stress, anxiety, elopement, and/or behavior which could cause harm to self or others. h. Reports observations and changes in resident’s physical conditions, attitudes and behaviors. 2 .Other Duties a. Orients new CNAs to residents routines and care. b. Assists residents with leisure activities to improve mental well being by using activity kits, reading, playing cards, following guidelines of the activity program supervisor. c. Promotes the exercise of residents rights. d. Actively participates in the resident centered culture of the facility e. Responds to emergencies such as fire, disaster, missing persons, resident injury f. Reports to nurse any accidents or injuries to resident immediately. g. Cleans residents rooms, closets, beds, dressers, and their supplies such as walkers, geri chairs, commodes, wheelchairs and lifts, and submits maintenance work requests when repairs are needed. Physical and Environmental Demands: * Lift 15 pounds frequently/50 pounds occasionally * Remain on feet (stand or walk) for extended periods of time * Work is of medium to heavy demand necessitating walking, standing, bending, lifting. * Must have hearing and visual acuity. * Exposure to blood borne pathogens. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Behaviors): Required for the first day of work: * Communicate effectively. Good organizational skills. * Able to pass medicines in a long term facility Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): * Must be a Certified Nurse Aide * Two years of experience in a long term care or hospital setting * High School Diploma or equivalent * Licensed as a Medication Aide II in the State of Montana Job: Healthcare Support* *Title: *Medication Aide II Location: Lewistown Requisition ID: 21141788
