CENTURY COMPANIES, INC., A HIGHLY REPUTABLE HEAVY CIVIL, CONCRETE AND ASPHALT PAVING CONTRACTOR BASED IN LEWISTOWN, MONTANA, IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITION.

Plant Maintenance Electrician

Classification: Non- Exempt/ Seasonal Compensation: Prevailing Wage

Work Location: Montana/North Dakota/Wyoming

Position Objective:

Perform skilled work primarily on asphalt plants and aggregate crushing plants, in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic systems to include plant operations and control equipment. This role is critical to achieving plant overall equipment effectiveness and equipment availability goals by elimination of unplanned stops and extended downtimes.

Essential Functions:

  • Read/interpret engineering drawings, schematics and manuals to install, calibrate, maintain and repair electrical apparatus. Work from complex engineering and manufacturers drawings or manuals to complete projects and assigned work.
  • Install and maintain and troubleshoot electrical equipment such as motor control centers, motor start circuits, generators, high voltage switchgear, variable frequency drives, soft starts, switches, relays, circuit breakers, motors, etc. and related equipment.
  • Install and maintain programmable logic control systems (PLC). Interpret and/or modify PLC control logic as necessary.
  • Determine the existence of electrical hazards and problems. Safely isolate, ground, and prepare circuits and electrical apparatus to enable repairs.
  • Observe installed systems to detect hazards and determine the need for adjustments or modifications.
  • Be able to use electrical/electronic testing equipment to such as multi-meters, ammeters, megohm meters, high potential testers, oscilloscopes, digital probes to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Be able to use hand and power tools related to the electrical trades.
  • Be able to work with equipment up to 3-phase 480V.
  • Use computerized maintenance system to retrieve and enter information.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining scheduled maintenance programs for plant equipment. Maintain records, update drawings, and develop safety procedures.
  • Supervise and participate in training as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required. Competencies:

  • Must be licensed in the State of Montana as a Journeyman or Master Electrician.

  • Five (5) years of experience in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment with related training. Additional related education may be substituted for work experience.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware with programming basics is highly desirable.
  • Considerable knowledge of the approved methods, practices, code requirements and safety standards, including equipment, tools and materials of the trade is preferred.
  • Display considerable knowledge of electrical systems, including high-voltage switchgear, protective relaying, grounding procedures, personal protective equipment requirements, safety procedures, and electrical test equipment.
  • Display an uncompromising focus on safety by properly following company policies and MSHA/DOT/DEQ regulations for safe working procedures and protection of the environment.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude toward co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times.
  • Be willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Be willing to work overtime, including weekends and unscheduled hours during equipment malfunctions/breakdowns (24 hours/7 days a week during the construction season).
  • Be willing to work in the field, sometimes for extended periods of time (1-2 weeks).
  • Must require minimal supervision.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety st ndards.
  • Valid Driver's License required, Commercial Driver's License helpful.
  • Clean driving record required.
  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent preferred. Trade school diploma helpful.
  • Must meet minimum age requirement.
  • At least 20/40 acuity (Snellen) in each eye with or without correction. At least 70 degrees peripheral in horizontal meridian measured in each eye.
  • Must be able to perform with or without accommodations.
  • Must be available to travel in Montana, North Dakota and Wyoming. Work Demands & Environment:

  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time during a regular work day; use arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects; lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds; climb up and down ladders, scaffolds and other climbing devices; carry tools and equipment; work while in stooped, kneeling, crouched, and crawling position; be able to see naturally or with correction, to safely perform designated tasks.

  • Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, and as needed, safety-toed boots, respirator, protective clothing, gloves. Use personal protective equipment to protect against arc flash and shock
  • Experience with fall protection is preferred.
