Indirect Report: Director of Operations

Position Overview

The Mechanical Designer will report to the Project Engineering Manager and assist the maintenance and engineering departments in various CADD projects related to Project & Process Engineering. The Mechanical Designer is a member of the Engineering Team which supports the business in consistently meeting or exceeding safety, quality, environmental, regulatory, financial, and product supply goals.

Essential Functions

General:

  • Owns the following:

  • -Facility CADD program and standards management

  • -Drawing organizational structure and template standards

  • -Drawing revision control and change management

  • -Equipment CADD block standards and management

  • Supports all Engineering systems for the business, focusing on the Engineering Operating System (EOS) and Early Equipment Management (EEM)

  • Create, update & maintain Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s), Utility flow Diagrams (UFD’s), Electrical Schematics, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s), Plan and Elevation drawings (using X-referencing) and detail drawings pertaining to existing production lines, building systems, and utility systems

  • Physically investigate and measure facility and equipment dimensions for creating as-built drawings

  • Maintain facility and production equipment layout drawings as changes are made

  • Advise engineering, maintenance, and management on best options for building, equipment, and layout modifications based on facility as-built drawings and knowledge

  • Support Project Managers with detailed engineering drawing

  • Provide design-for-manufacturability and cost-savings recommendations for new equipment designs

  • Perform all CADD work in compliance with Elite One Source CADD Standards, interacting with Plant and Corporate CADD Departments

  • Provide CADD process improvement recommendations

  • Produce fabrication drawings for parts and assemblies

  • Develop and maintain electronic CADD file management system(s) and naming conventions

  • Identify potential safety and regulatory compliance issues and elevate to HSES and facility managers

  • Through utilization of standard templates, processes, and methods within the EOS, proactively develop practices and methodologies that increase the effectiveness and reduce the costs of engineering

  • Perform other CADD related duties as assigned

  • Stays relevant on new software advances and improvements for engineering design and drafting

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Minimum of 5 years work environment CADD experience (food related environment strongly preferred)

Preferred:

  • Associate or Technical degree

  • Technical Certificate or Equivalent Experience

  • Work experience in a GMP environment

  • Experience operating within a formalized Continuous Improvement Environment (TPM, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma

Skills:

  • Knowledge of Computer Assisted Drafting & Design techniques and graphic development

  • Proficient with AutoCAD 2007 or newer

  • Ability to properly utilize measurement devices including tape measures, laser measures, calipers, protractors, etc

  • Familiarity with sanitary equipment design concepts required

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and utility piping systems required

  • Knowledge of construction/architectural/engineering terminology

  • Ability to utilize Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Professional Suite

  • Acute attention to detail

  • Effective planning and organizational skills

  • Ability to self-direct work with minimal supervision

  • Knowledge of relevant codes: ASME, NEC, NFPA

  • Required Competencies: Functional Technical Skills, Drive for Results, Action Orientation, Priority Setting, and Problem Solving

Physical Requirements

Working Conditions on the Production Floor:

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced light manufacturing environment.

  • PPE requirements: safety glasses, respiratory protection, company supplied lab coats, and gloves.

  • GMP gowning requirements: Hair net, beard guard (if applicable), shoe covers, and sweatbands as required.

  • Factory Attire.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent lifting / carrying (10-50 lbs.).

  • Frequent pushing / pulling (50-300 lbs) and frequent bending and stooping.

  • Frequent handling / gripping (parts, tools, etc.).
