DEFINITION: Provides assistance to Veterinarian during Animal Control’s spay/neuter and vaccine clinics to ensure the health and safety of domestic animals and the community.

REPRESENTATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK: Prepares animals for surgery, administers anesthesia to animals, assists veterinarian during vaccination and spay/neuter surgical procedures. Prepares the room for surgeries and vaccinations by sterilizing instruments and equipment, and refilling supplies. Retrieves drugs from locked cabinet; maintains drug log and inventory. Manages customer flow; ensures that clinic appointments are conducted on schedule; completes required paperwork. Provides care instruction to animal handlers after surgical procedures. Cleans room, instruments and equipment, and locks drugs in cabinet at the end of the day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED. Training or certification as a vet tech desired. Requires two years of experience assisting a veterinarian during surgical procedures. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: New employees will be asked to volunteer vaccination status for required vaccines upon hire and will be offered assistance during hiring to receive necessary immunizations. Employees who have not received the vaccines required for their positions or who are unwilling to voluntarily provide vaccination status for required vaccines will receive a reasonable accommodation where such accommodation does not require an undue hardship or endanger the health or safety of any person.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Work requires regular physical activity including: standing and walking on hard surfaces; bending; reaching; stooping; and medium range lifting (25-50\#). Requires occasional heavy lifting (50\#). Work involves use of disinfectants and strong cleaners. Works regularly with animals, primarily dogs and cats, of all sizes and temperament. Occasional bites and scratches are likely. Requires exposure to blood and other bodily fluids.
