State of Montana Administrative Assistant-Road Reporter in Montana

Montana Department of Transportation in the Billings District is currently recruiting for Road Reporters in the Billings office.

Duties:

Operates two-way radio and answers all incoming calls to effectively gather information from Highway maintenance crews and compile a detailed road report November through April. This report is then entered into a computerized report. Creates script and records roadway information on recording device accessible to the public and news service. May also be required to arrange, sort and file materials; type labels, envelopes, headings, form letters; proofread forms, records, requests, etc.; performs basic arithmetic calculations, answer multi-line telephone, distribute information, operate simple office equipment; keypunch information into computer terminal; work independently; perform related work as required.

*Note to Applicants:

The successful applicants must be willing to work weekends, holidays, nights and additional hours during storms. Shift times will vary based on the need to fill in, but will likely consist of shifts on Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:00 AM-3:00 PM.

_Education/Experience:_

One year of clerical/office experience. Radio experience is desirable but not necessary.

Working knowledge of Windows, Oracle, Excel, outlook and internet; thorough knowledge of road reporting system and various weather programs as well as knowledge of standard office practices and procedures is preferred.

This position requires the ability to work independently and without direct supervision. Must be able to deal with crisis situations an remain calm. Adapt quickly to changing circumstances, prioritize work and perform under pressure. Accept the pressure of multiple tasks, such as multi-phone lines ringing and several radio calls simultaneously. Work is performed in a controlled office environment. Little or no travel is involved. The period of active employment is typically November to April dependent on weather.
