Providence Manager, Coding Support *Telecommute* in Montana
Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Manager, Coding Support to work remotely within our footprint states: AK, CA, MT, OR, TX and/or WA.
Revenue Cycle Shared Services reflect the Providence employees who work throughout Providence St. Joseph Health in revenue cycle systems and structures in support of our ministries and operations in all regions from Alaska, Washington, Montana, Oregon, California, Texas, and New Mexico. Revenue Cycle's objective is to ensure our core strategy, Committed to Excellence, is enhanced along with the overall patient care experience (know me, care for me, ease my way) by delivering a robust foundation of services, operational and technical support, and the sharing of comprehensive, relevant, and highly specialized revenue cycle expertise.
The Manager, Coding Support is responsible for operationalizing, and monitoring best practices for the coding support team and its processes throughout the Providence Health System, including affiliates, leading to the compliant and timely coding encounters for use in claim submission, and regulatory, quality, and population health reporting to support the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
This leader, in collaboration with the Director, and other Managers is responsible for the performance of the coding support function ensuring organizational performance is in alignment with the short-term and long-term coding goals of the Providence Health System.
Provides management and oversight of coding support staff.
Provides coding expertise and direction to other departments, medical staff and other providers to improve clinical documentation as guided by official coding guidelines.
Implements standardized policies, procedures, and practices related to coding/abstracting.
Leads /participates in enterprise-wide hospital-based coding-related initiatives and ensures adherence to official coding and regulatory guidelines.
Partners with physicians, CDI, Quality, Risk / Integrity / Compliance, and other departments to optimize clinical documentation practices related to coding across the enterprise.
Alerts the organization and works with the appropriate leaders on any identified coding quality and integrity risks and assists in the development of risk-mitigation strategies.
Communicates ideas or positions in a persuasive manner that builds support, agreement, or commitment. Takes actions that directly or indirectly influence others to create buy-in, gain trust, and motivate actions in others or win concessions without damaging relationships.
Works closely with the HIM Coding QA, Education, and Training Team to ensure a high-level of coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance with official coding and regulatory guidelines.
Provides management of coding technology and use of common tools including encoders, groupers, and other systems related to coding /abstracting.
Monitors compliance to all coding-related KPI’s.
Monitors performance related to metrics relevant, such as DNFB (Discharged Not Final Billing) and coding A/R days.
Monitors metrics related to coding productivity and quality.
Evaluates and monitors individual coder performance and provides appropriate coaching, mentoring, disciplinary actions as appropriate.
Recruits for, screens, interviews, and hires.
Bachelor's Degree preferably in a healthcare-related field Or equivalent educ/experience
3 years Management/supervisory role in overseeing coding operations and teams in an acute care environment.
7 years of Extensive background in ICD-10-CM coding, hospital charging, and official hospital coding guidelines.
Demonstrated experience in process improvement methodology, change management, operational improvement in complex systems.
Proven history of proactively identifying, resolving and escalating issues that impact business outcomes.
Successful interaction and communication with various organizational stakeholders and team members.
