About this position:

The Manager, Power Generation is responsible for overseeing all operations and maintenance aspects of NorthWestern Energy's Hydro Generation fleet. This includes operations and maintenance, regulatory compliance, project execution, and needed technical support. This position is responsible for the leadership of the Hydro O&M organization and will communicate, support and ensure adherence to the business plan. The Manager is responsible to manage availability and generation of the Hydro fleet guided by availability of water, status of units, condition of the power market and maintenance needs. Provides leadership to Superintendents, Supervisors, and Engineers in the area of strategic planning and asset management for the performance and results of safety, compliance, generation, and budget adherence within area of responsibility. This position is responsible for the safe and compliant operation of the Hydro fleet. This position is responsible to build and maintain a healthy culture within the organization.

    About this job:

  • Complete required documentation and interact with the public

  • Contribute, support, communicate, and adhere to technical and business directions including company initiatives. Lead change efforts related to Supply Group and other strategic improvement initiatives.

  • Coordinate activities with engineering, safety, and license compliance groups as they impact operations and maintenance of the plants, including coordination of FERC inspections, compliance reporting, and capital upgrade planning

  • Coordinate external resources to complete projects and plans

  • Create, regulate, and monitor work plan portfolio development and use

  • Demonstrates leadership consistent with NorthWestern Energy's code, values, policies, processes and controls

  • Develops departmental plans including business, production and/or organizational priorities including the planning and development of Expense and Capital annual and long term business plans

  • Effectively manages budget, ensuring proper cost controls

  • Ensure safe production and promote a safety conscious work environment and culture

  • Ensure that the plants are operated and maintained according to federal, state, and local regulatory agencies (including FERC/NERC/WECC).

  • Support and manage workforce under existing collective bargaining agreements. Support and manage collective bargaining negotiation as needed for applicable work groups.

  • Identify standards and execute performance measures to indicate cost effectiveness of plant operations and maintenance. Prepare monthly and quarterly status reports for all aspects of the operation, including safety and O&M performance indicators

  • Inspect work and ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures

  • Lead and develop managers, supervisors, superintendents, and engineers within the Hydro group, including the development of strategic improvement efforts

  • Coordinate and work with Director, Power Generation to set and achieve strategic efforts.

  • Support participation in organized power markets with generation assets.

  • Maintain situational and safety awareness and communicate to maintain safety and efficiency

  • Implement, demonstrate, and manage human performance fundamentals in the operation.

  • Perform individual lifts and manipulate equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.

  • Complete on-call after-hours duties, periodically, for one week at a time; this requires the individual to reside in the greater metro area; includes response to emergency situations and calling personnel out for after-hours activities

  • Regularly coordinate and communicate with co-workers

  • Utilizes effective management practices to maintain employee engagement and productivity

    Am I right for this job? Here's the success profile:

  • Bachelor's Degree or 10 years of equivalent experience working in generation plant operations and maintenance, generation asset and reliability management, generation compliance, and safety

  • BS in engineering or other technical/industrial degree and greater than 10 years of experience in power generation (preferred)

  • Professional engineer license (preferred)

  • Experience using computerized maintenance management and project management programs

  • First Aid/CPR Certification

  • Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record

  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record

  • Knowledge of applicable codes and safety
