Providence Senior Clinical Informatics Specialist in Montana


This role is remote with some travel involved. We are open to hire in the footprint of Providence in the states. AK, WA, OR, CA, MT, NM or TX.

The Sr Laboratory Informatics Specialist is accountable for working with laboratory specific clinical users and operational leaders to support implementation, optimization and adoption of integrated information systems, including the electronic health record (EHR.) This position provides expertise in clinical information systems, laboratory workflow analysis, clinical decision support, and data management to define, execute, and measure EHR adoption, optimization, and enhancement in service to safety, quality, regulatory, usability, efficiency, and the patient experience. The Sr. CI laboratory specialist will apply clinical informatics principles in guiding, designing, and directing potential solutions through the use of information technology applications. They are effective communicators for varying audiences from clinicians and staff to executive leadership and vendors.

In this position you will:

  • Demonstrate personal and leadership competencies in line with the core values that are the foundation of all activities performed by caregivers in order to achieve the Mission of the PSJH System.


  • Lead and model design and implementation of workflow training consistent with current national informatics and adult learning standards.

  • Design and spearhead communication projects around technology changes, upgrades, and downtimes to customers.

Problem Solving:

  • Demonstrate expertise in accurately analyzing and prioritizing issues.

Customer Service:

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills in documenting, evaluating and prioritizing clinical users’ requested system improvements.

  • Ensure timely follow-up communication with customers regarding issue resolution.

  • Act a change agent, assisting customers with the dynamic nature of clinical information systems.


  • Be skilled at leading and integrating groups of diverse disciplines in collaborative activities.

  • Demonstrate expertise in effective interactions and positive interpersonal skills in order to maximize productivity and positive employee relations.

Clinical Support:

  • Gain understanding of system/ministry data needs.

  • Lead planning for full life cycle for clinical information systems.

  • Evaluate outcomes with the use of clinical information systems, and develop, deliver and measure intervention.

  • Stay current with regulatory standards, management and healthcare issues and trends, and legal implications.

  • Support customer access to reports.

Professional Development:

  • Maintain and demonstrate current knowledge of industry trends.

  • Actively seek opportunities to apply this knowledge to practice.

  • Mentor peers in their Informatics related professional development.

Environmental and Working Conditions:

  • Work in a fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions.

  • Be required to frequently travel among regional facilities (up to 50%) and occasionally travel among PSJH entities (10%-40%).

  • Reliable mechanisms for travel throughout the region is required.

  • Be subject to changing work hours to meet client needs.

Required qualification:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or related science

  • 5-8 years or related experience an a position that had the same or similar primary duties working with a clinical information system within an integrated EHR system.

  • 8 years Familiarity with systems and applications. Work in the clinical laboratory. Advanced computer hardware and software expertise.

  • Required upon hire: Current clinical certification when appropriate

Preferred qualification:

  • Master's Degree Education, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a clinical discipline such as Nursing, or healthcare field.

  • Preferred upon hire: Informatics certifications or credentialing (may be equivalent for up to 2 years of experience for this position at the hiring manger’s discretion).
