Work Unit Overview: Part Time ? 29 hours per week. All county departments must maintain an open and customer service oriented environment, cooperate with other County departments and governmental entities, and keep accurate and timely records and information. Job Summary: The Library Clerk reports to the Library Director, or the Assistant Library Director when the Library Director is absent. The Library Clerk performs a variety of moderately complex technical and paraprofessional duties at the library circulation desk and greets patrons entering and leaving the library. Additionally, the Library Clerk provides excellent customer service. Essential Functions (Major Duties or Responsibilities): These duties are the essential functions and are not all-inclusive of all duties that the incumbent performs. -Consistently provide outstanding Customer service.-Maintaining a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers at all times.-Responding promptly to customer inquiries.-Assists patrons with location materials, using computers, or explaining procedures (checking out, logging on and off the Internet, making copies, preparing interlibrary loans, etc.).-Check in and out library materials.-Accepts and processes fines, fees, and/or other payments.-Work closely with library staff to plan, implement, facilitate, and promote literacy activities, programs, and projects.-Seek out and maintain relationships with community partners and high impact stakeholders.-Assists Library Director with additional tasks, as needed.-Assists in planning and sustaining library and community programs.-Shelve library materials.-Wrap and prepare new materials for circulation.-Addresses or escalates patron conduct or safety issues to appropriate management.-Knows and understands the American Library Association?s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read and Freedom to View Statements, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support patron privacy and confidentiality of materials used.-Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.-Other duties as assigned. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: The demands and conditions described here are representative of those the employee must meet to perform the essential functions of the job.-Must be able to move from place to place within a location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry items weighing up to 25 lbs. (twenty-five pounds) and occasionally up to 35 lbs. (thirty-five pounds), such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials.-Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.-Intermittent periods of standing, sitting, and walking.-Required to reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and some light occasional lifting in the file storage area for research purposes.-Occasionally required to climb or balance.-Working on a computer and communicating with others.-Subject to frequent interruptions.-Work in an environment with a moderate noise level. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:-Strong organization skills and attention to detail.-Ability to work well independently or as a team member. Education and Experience:-An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experienced required.-High School Diploma/GED-Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).-Minimum typing speed of 45 wpm.-Good communication skills, both written and verbal.-Strong organization skills and attention to detail.-Ability to work well independently or as a team member.
