BOYS & GIRLS CLUB - POLSON Edible Garden Site Coordinator in POLSON, Montana

The Polson Boys and Girls Club is seeking an Edible Garden Site Coordinator for their Polson and Ronan Club Houses.Primary Functions: This person supports the Director of Operations and the Project Director (Garden Coordinator) in efforts to engage families fully in activities that promote relationship development and healthy lifestyles. Through a thriving gardening program and family centered cooking classes, this person will increase awareness in issues surrounding food sovereignty, healthy eating on a slim budget, and incorporating native dishes into daily meals. This person facilitates the activities and opportunities for the club families and the community to engage at a deeper level to achieve the Boys & Girls Club mission.KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):The responsibilities outlined below are part of an overall team effort, not just one person.1. Manage and maintain garden beds in a way that maximizes their use for the seasonal use of fruit and vegetables in the food program and within the family cooking classes2. Work with the Extension offices and Master Gardeners to implement stronger partnerships and volunteer supports3. Explore new ways to maximize effectiveness in garden bed usage4. Ensure that the gardens are kept clean and organized5. Coordinate with kitchen staff and unit director to implement best practices for family cooking classes6. Promotion of classes/gardening project in the community to raise awareness and engagement in these programs7. Prepare and maintain a budget for the garden and the cooking programs, assist in securing funding8. Develop local sources for supplies as needed to increase food sovereignty9. Manage special projects as needed that further the organizations messaging10. Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly clubhouse staff meetings (may be outside of regular work hours)11. Must be available to work Monday through Friday 9:30AM - 6PM for the summer, 1PM - 7PM for the school year, with some opportunities outside of these times for special events. You will not work all of the hours outlined. Expectation of 15 - 20 hours per week with some seasonality.12. Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes (Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles)-Promote and stimulate program participation-Provide guidance and role modeling to members-Provide assistance in implementing programs from BGCA or other organizationsAdditional Responsibilities:1. May participate in special programs and or events2. May be required to drive Club vanRELATIONSHIPS:Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer) and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.External: Maintains contact with members, families and the general public to give and obtain information, either in response to inquiries or as instructed by supervisorSKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:-Basic understanding or experience in gardening methods (Master Gardener preferred)-Interest in teaching and facilitating family cooking classes-Interest in Native foods-High school diploma or equivalent-Training in secretarial skills and use of common office equipment-Understanding of Microsoft Suite products-Good written and verbal communication skills-Good organization and attention to detail-Strong customer relation skills-Able to maintain strict confidentiality-Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems-Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (can be completed in the first 6 months of employment)-Valid State Drivers License for 21 years and over AND the ability to qualify for Club auto insurance coverage to drive club vans on public roads-Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screeningPHYSICAL REQUIREMENT/WORK ENVIRONMENT-The Boys & Girls Club is a fast pace environment.
