EASTMAN CATTLE, LLC Farm/Irrigation/Livestock Worker in POLSON, Montana

Temporary full-time position from 4/07/2024 to 10/30/2024. Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of livestock, alfalfa, grass hay, cherry trees, and apple trees. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/crop production. General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: maintain, drive, attach, and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; remove rocks from field; paint/repair/maintain farm structures/grounds; replace/repair fencing; perform general cleanup of farm areas; drive, load/unload trucks; operate vehicle, motor bike, or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; recognize disease and/or nutrient/moisture requirements by plant texture/development or soil condition; observe general condition of plants/vines/trees and apply the appropriate care; pollinate/prune/transplant/pinch plants and cull appropriately to ensure development of product; care for young non-producing fruit/nut trees including weeding, hoeing, trunk painting, hand fertilizing and growth selection by hand and clipping; hand thin trees to ensure proper load on tree; prune trees using a variety of pruning equipment including hand shears, hand loppers, hand saws, and 12-foot ladders; identify and remove stubs or broken branches, downward-growing branches, branches which rub against each other, shaded interior branches, dead wood and shoots/suckers with hand pruning saws and clippers and mechanized equipment; train, position, prop, and tie tree limbs; clear property and clean fields; plant trees; attach harness, bucket or bag and pick low hanging fruit/nuts while standing or on a ladder; grasp, twist, and pull fruit/nuts form tree/vine; place fruit/nuts into bags, buckets, or trays, exercising care to avoid plant and fruit damage; carry harness, bucket or bag of up to 20 lbs. and place fruit into plastic lugs which hold approximately 30 pounds of fruit; place product in buckets; dump filled buckets into crates; harvest, pack, and store crop; inspect crops for signs of disease, insect manifestations, worms and rot; sort good product from contaminated or rotting product; carry and position work aids, such as ladders, canvas drop-cloths, and buckets; stand on ladders or elevated platforms, stoop over plants, or crawl along rows to reach fruit/nuts when harvesting; remove ladders, debris, boxes, and discarded fruit/nuts from fields and orchards; discard diseased/rotting/inferior product and foreign matter; remove dead plants and replace with seeds or live plants; handle and lift above the head: rolls of plastic, bundles of wire, and rolls of drip tape; repeatedly catch and throw crops weighing up to 30 pounds; lift crops weighing approximately 80 pounds; identify and remove crop that is misshapen, damaged, or inferior; perform any other labor considered necessary for the efficient structure of properties; climb in and out of tall trucks and various truck beds and or trailers several times a day; operate tractors/ trucks to load/unload products; watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure machine is working properly; adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions; report problems to farm mechanic.
