BOYS & GIRLS CLUB Program Cook - Polson in POLSON, Montana

The Boys and Girls Club is seeking a part time Program Cook for their Polson Clubhouse. PRIMARY FUNCTION: -Responsible for guaranteeing that the children are served nutritious, good tasting and appealing meals and snacks. -Follow methods that are sanitary -Work with Food Services Manager on ordering and purchasing. -Keep records and follows guidelines required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and SFSP *Supervise a safe, friendly, and respectful environment *Actively interact and engage with youth and staff. This person is part of a team that prepares and serves meals for multiple locations. KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities): 1. Plans and prepares foods in accordance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and SFSP 2. Maintains cost control, budget and inventory systems based on CAFCP/SFSP procedures including records of food production, service and attendance. 3. Works With Food Services Manager on purchasing food and supplies necessary to prepare the planned menus for the number of youth served. 4. Plans meals far enough ahead to minimize the need for food substitutions; when substitutions are necessary, purchases and serves food of equivalent nutritional value. Modifies menus for children's field trips; notes all modifications and substitutes on posted menu and for CACFP/SFSP records. 5. Prepares meals and snacks in such a way that a minimum of nutrients are lost from foods, that ensure foods taste good and look appealing, and that there are ample amounts of foods for children to have as many servings as they need. 6. Maintains established standards of sanitation, safety and food preparation and storage as set by the local and state health departments; maintains an orderly, sanitary, and safe kitchen. 7. Serves prepared meals/snacks at agreed upon times. 8. Ensures the kitchen is cleaned and ready for use each day. 9. Assures the proper care and maintenance of all food service equipment; identifies equipment needs for food preparation and service and assists in purchasing as needed. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Attends and participates in trainings and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities. 2. Participates in general staff meetings and other meetings planned by supervisors RELATIONSHIPS: Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive and provide information, discuss issues, give explain guidelines/instruction. External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools to create positive partnerships. You are a mentor/role model to all club members. SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: -High School diploma or GED -Experience in institutional cooking, meal planning, and food order management -Possess a current Food Handlers Certificate helpful -Ability to calculate to determine number of meals to be served and to adjust recipes and serving portions. -Ability to work well with children -Ability to work with the general public -Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications current or completed in first 3 months. -Is available for work 1P-7P Monday-Friday during the school year and 12P-6P in the summer months. You will work 30-35 hours weekly. -Must pass a background check. Disqualifiers include: (a) refuses to consent to a criminal background check, (b) makes a false statement in connection with such criminal background check, (c) is registered, or is required to be registered on a State or National sex offender registry, (d) has been convicted of a felony consisting of, but not limited to: 1. murder, 2. child abuse, 3. domestic violence 4. abduction or human trafficking 5. a crime involving rape or sexual assault, 6. arson 7. weapons 8. physical assault or battery 9. drug possession, drug use or distribution of drugs in the last five (5) years; (e) has been convicted of any misdemeanor or felony against children, including chil pornography, or (f) has been convicted of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Minor in Possession (MIP) within the last 2 years (employees only policy requirement specific to the Boys & Girls Club of the Flathead Reservation & Lake County) -Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including marijuana. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT/WORK ENVIRONMENT: The Boys and Girls Club is a fast pace environment. Must be able to physically move through grocery stores, the kitchen, and the club. You must be able to lift 25 pounds and be able to staying standing for long periods at a time.
