About the Team:

The UX and Eclipse Engineering teams build and support large, fast-growing, and innovative applications in the Financial Technology space (aka FinTech, for those who love acronyms). We are focused on React, TypeScript, and Node. If one of those technologies is deployed somewhere in the company, we have our finger in that pie. The other pies in the company are mostly made out of Go and C# with a cinnamon sugar crumble on top. The team is engineering-forward, where the Associate Director to which you report is also an individual contributor. He's a nice guy. You'll like him. He's kinda' dumb, though.

Overview:

In this role, you will be a founding member of a team focused on moving our products away from legacy libraries & build tools to a modern front end built on React and MobX. You will be a keystone talent on which other teams will rely.

This is part of a broad drive in the company to become as cutting-edge as possible in as many areas as possible. As such, we think there are excellent growth and education opportunities. We are very open to experimenting with new technologies, practices, and patterns. We are an older tech company, but we are still a tech company.

In service of this, you will leverage your deep knowledge of React and TypeScript arcana to develop custom libraries and tools and solve problems for other teams, enabling them to be cutting edge while minimizing their cognitive load. When another team comes to you unable to figure out why their TypeScript fails to compile, you will be the one to figure out that it is because of a base interface hidden under three layers of inheritance conflicting with another interface. You will then also tell them that they were insane for writing their code this way. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

This is a remote role. Your primary office is the Boston headquarters of Eze, and you can go to the office if you desire, but it is not required. As such, remote communication skills are of paramount importance. People in engineering primarily use Slack but Teams is used elsewhere in the company. We are trying to build a better culture of communication and collaboration within that context. We want to build a sense of place. An "office" in the "metaverse" where "people" do "work."

Day to Day:

  • Work in a highly distributed organization that stretches across time zones.

  • Work with a UX team to design & build reusable & testable front-end components for a consistent user experience.

  • Work with other cross-functional teams that require your expertise in React, TypeScript, and Node.

  • Transform mockups into functional & responsive user experiences that can be used across browsers & devices.

  • Create functional prototypes of design concepts to be presented to stakeholders for feedback.

  • Build front-end tools and libraries for consumption by other teams.

  • Mentor more junior developers.

  • Utilize the latest front-end technologies within a highly automated continuous CI/CD delivery environment.

  • Write documentation and guides for consumption by other teams.

  • Ensure that teams all across the company are following best practices and styles wherever JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, or CSS is found.

    Minimum Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience with React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.

  • 1+ years of TypeScript specifically

  • Extensive experience in remote work and working with distributed teams.

  • Solid understanding of Computer Science concepts such as data structures and algorithms.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science or other engineering disciplines, or sufficient work experience.

    Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with React Native

  • Experience with Electron

  • Experience with AngularJS (aka Angular 1.x, the technology we are leaving behind)

  • Experience with, or interest in, UX and Visual Design

  • Experience with full-stack development in Node or Go

  • Experience with Continuous Integration practices

  • Experience with containers, Kubernetes, and Rancher
