Continental Resources Field Safety Specialist I (Sidney/Watford City) in Sidney, Montana

Job Summary

Responsible for coordinating and supporting H&S related efforts for field operations to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements and achieve operational and company business objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Field-based H&S Support: Provides visible field-based H&S support to assigned Regional field operations, assists Supervisor in coaching and mentoring of personnel, supports maintaining day-to-day focus on meeting H&S requirements, works collaboratively to achieve goals and targets, participates in H&S meetings and specialized initiatives, assists in addressing H&S technical questions.

  • H&S Program Implementation: Plays a supporting role in the development of new HSE Programs/ Procedures/ Standards/ Alerts to reduce operational risks, supports communication and implementation at field level to assure understanding, raises potential gaps and improvements for supervisory action, participates and periodically delivers training to support field H&S initiatives.

  • Compliance Assurance: Works in support of compliance-based reviews and inspections of assigned operating locations and equipment to ensure regulatory compliance, supports incident tracking and trending of field H&S data, provides assistance to Supervisor while meeting with field-based regulatory personnel, participates as directed during agency visits, provides required personal protective equipment to meet requirements.

  • Incident Management: Provides direct support to assigned operational groups on incident investigation and reporting process, helps to coordinate injury case management, assists operations leadership in the implementation of corrective actions, provides support on EHS reporting and vendor H&S incident reviews, communicates and discusses key learnings included in Safety Alerts with assigned area of operation.

  • Risk Management: Works collaboratively with operations and/or maintenance teams on day-to-day risk issues, helps identify appropriate controls (training, procedures, equipment) to reduce risk, provides field H&S support to assigned high risk operations (eg. rig moves, heavy lifts, etc), supports field site efforts by operational supervisors to eliminate hazards (Hazard Hunts), utilizes Take 5 and similar risk assessment tools to ensure effective risk assessment prior to starting key field tasks.

  • Inspections, Audits and Reviews: Conducts inspections and reviews for assigned operations, supports operational supervision in preparing for high risk activities, promotes and encourages discussion of industry best practice when closing gaps, assists in compiling reports and communicating recommendations for improvement.

  • Contractor Management: Supports local efforts in contractor safety management, plays a lead role in contractor communication and coordination as assigned, supports operations in pre-qualification efforts of vendors, conducts or participates in contractor safety meetings, communicates findings and field level observations to Supervisor for action, and supports Drug and Alcohol testing programs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Proficient computer skills.

  • Proven team player.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Three (3) or more years of E&P (or related H&S work experience)

  • Strong knowledge of Production and Completions operations

  • Clean motor vehicle record

  • An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test.

Preferred Qualifications

  • H&S Certification (CSP, CIH, CHMM, OHST or a related discipline)

  • Physical Requirements

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.

  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
