Part-Time or Full-Time Animal Care Giver/Office Specialist SUMMARY: Animal Care Giver; Cattery Specialist is the basic animal care provider for the animals at TRACS. This position is RESPONSIBLE for the overall daily outcomes and operations within the Cattery Building. This position gives assistance to the Puppy den specialist as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, the individuals assigned to this position must be able to perform the duties as listed above. They must have the knowledge, skill, and ability to follow through daily with the above assigned tasks without endangering themselves or the animals in their care in any way. EDUCATION: High school education and 3 to 6 months experience in the care of animals, either personally or professionally. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense and understanding in carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form on a daily basis. Ability to deal with problems and determine appropriate solutions to animal related medical or behavioral issues that arise on a daily basis. Ability to determine the need for assistance beyond their own capacity to act in accordance with the animals need or situation. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the basic functions of the animal care giver. Reasonable accommodation may be made for individuals who may have some disability in performing the daily functions, as long as animal care needs may still be met. While performing the duties of this job, employees will be required regularly to stand on their feet for 3-4 hours at a time or more. Employees will be required to do a great deal of walking while involved in the care of the animals. Employees may be required to lift up to 40 pounds on an occasion and 10-20 pounds with frequency. Reaching and bending to lower levels while caring for dogs and cats may be a very common occurrence and all employees must have this capability. Animal care givers will also come into contact with a variety of medicinal used for the treatment of a variety of ailments in animals. These medicines will not be of the ?controlled substance type? but may be hazardous to humans if ingested in error and caution should always be incorporated in their use. Noise levels while in the care of the dogs may be loud and potentially damaging to the ears if maintained for a long period of time. Noise abatement should always be encouraged while in the care of the dogs.
