We are thrilled to announce an exciting seasonal position at Missouri Headwaters State Park, running from early May to mid-July. This is a unique opportunity for individuals keen on immersing themselves in the natural beauty and rich history of a National Historic Landmark, conveniently located just five miles east of Three Forks, Montana. As a vital member of the park's dedicated team, you will play an essential role in maintaining the park's trails and grounds during the bustling summer season, enhancing the experience for visitors. Additionally, your role will extend to our neighboring Madison Buffalo Jump State Park, where you will assist with school field trips, undertake trail work, and perform light custodial duties, ensuring both parks remain welcoming and well-maintained. Candidates for this position should be ready to embrace a dynamic work schedule, which may include weekends and holidays, as well as the potential for early morning or evening shifts. Physical fitness is paramount for this role, given the need for extensive walking on uneven terrain, engaging in light custodial work, operating equipment like weed eaters and mowers, and utilizing standard office technology. Your contributions will include both the office environment-serving as the primary contact for visitors and campers-and the park's vast trail network, making it a safe and inviting space for all guests. A core component of this position involves engaging directly with the public, sharing the park's intriguing stories related to Lewis and Clark, as well as Native American history. Job Duties: The Recreation Technician at Missouri Headwaters and Madison Buffalo Jump State Parks plays a crucial role in the daily operations and visitor experience of these historic sites. Serving as a point of contact for guest inquiries, they will utilize their knowledge of the parks' rich histories to engage and educate the public. Understanding core interpretive messages is essential, as incumbent will be expected to articulate these narratives effectively both in the park's office and along scenic trails. Their commitment to customer service will extend beyond information; they will assist campers with locating sites, collect fees, sell merchandise, and manage daily financial sessions, ensuring an organized and welcoming environment for all visitors. In addition to their interpretive and administrative duties, incumbents will also manage a variety of maintenance and janitorial tasks that are vital for the overall upkeep and presentation of the parks. Responsibilities will include maintaining cleanliness in restrooms, picnic areas, and other public spaces, as well as performing landscaping duties, mowing, and addressing hazards to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests. By actively patrolling the parks-either on foot or in a vehicle-incumbent will help enforce park rules through education and, when necessary, ale1t enforcement staff to address more serious incidents. As uniformed representatives of the State of Montana, they will embody the state's values, providing information with enthusiasm while ensuring compliance with park regulations. Graduation from high school or equivalent education. One year of college or vocational training experience in park and recreation management, interpretive visitor center, or closely related setting is preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. General knowledge of basic customer service and safe work habits Ability to: educate and inform visitors on compliance with rules and regulations and State laws; collect fees and make change; sell merchandise and account for monies collected; read, maintain, and prepare records and reports; and assist visitors in emergency situations.
