State of Montana Training Specialist in Warm Springs, Montana

Job Overview: This position develops, plans, and presents training programs for staff at the Montana State Hospital. Responsibilities include participating in the development and delivery of orientation programs for employees; developing curriculum and lesson plans for training programs; researching and identifying staff training requirements; organizing training events; and ensuring all training developed and administered is consistent with professional standards of practice, state and federal regulations, and hospital policy. Develop, Plan, and Present Training 65% * Researches and identifies staff training and development requirements based on state and federal regulations and facility and department policies and practices. * Develops curriculum and lesson plans for training programs consistent with professional standards of practice, state and federal regulations, and facility policy, and delivers training sessions. * Recommends appropriate training methods, content, and materials according to the subject area being trained, characteristics of the target audience, and available resources. * Assists with the development and delivery of new employee orientation. o Provides MANDT, crisis intervention, First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training to hospital personnel, temporary employees and contract workers as needed per Hospital regulatory or licensure requirements. o Provides Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid * Develops and uses self-instruction (online and self-paced) programs to supplement traditional instruction methods. 1. Training Program Management, Scheduling and Coordination 30% * Tracks MANDT, First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and other instructor certification status for applicable hospital employees; provides notification to employees and respective managers as required. * Maintains electronic database of training delivered and initiates follow-up activities to ensure that initial and ongoing training meet agency requirements, especially for staff re-fresher and re-certification training. * Participates with the development and implementation of training evaluation tools such as questionnaires, surveys, and discussion groups to obtain feedback on the quality and effectiveness of training activities. Utilizes results to identify needed improvements and modify training efforts. * Generates and provides training reports on department and/or individual employees upon request from manager or supervisor. * Coordinates and tracks the training of employees required to become a Full or Facility Level Certified Mental Health Professional Person. * Consults with management and supervisory staff to identify the operational training and development needs of facility staff in each service area. * Identifies and organizes appropriate training events using outside resources such as consultants, teleconferences, workshops, and webinars. 1. Other Duties as Assigned 5% * Assist with tasks and assignments provided by senior and executive leadership. * Participates in team activities as directed * Provides input and feedback to Hospital Administrator/Chief Operations Officer as directed. * Performs other duties as directed. Physical and Environmental Demands:Generally, a typical office environment. However, hospital employees may interact with persons who pose unpredictable and physically aggressive behavior requiring staff intervention and possible risk of injury to staff. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (Required for first day of work) * Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instructing individuals and groups, and measuring training effects. * Knowledge of theories and best practices in adult learning and knowledge and skill in the use of techniques and methods for ensuring the transfer of training. * Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. * Organization and time management skills. * Excellent communication and presentation skills. * Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking and writing so others will understand. * Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and coaching, mentoring, or otherwise helping others to improve their knowledge or skills. * Ability to perform accurate and thorough work. * Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time. * Ability to operate a personal computer including using spreadsheets, word processing, database, email, internet, and other computer programs. Minimum qualifications(Education and Experience): * Two years of job-related college or vocational training. * Two years of experience developing curriculum and/or providing training to or teaching others. * Two years of direct care experience in an acute psychiatric setting is preferred. * Bachelor’s degree in training and development, education, business, human services, psychology, sociology, occupational safety, or a closely related field is preferred. * Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis. * Certification as a CPR trainer and a MANDT trainer is required. An applicant who does not currently hold these certifications must earn the certifications within twelve months of hire. Failure to earn the certifications within the allotted time may result in termination of employment. Candidates will be evaluated to determine if they meet the minimum qualifications listed above and on the extent to which the application materials show the candidate possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with this position.
