Job Description Summary:
Responsible for preparation of all hot and cold foods to be served to hospital patients, cafeteria patrons and catering events.
Qualifications:
Cooking experience.
Serv-Safe Certification within 90 days of hire.
Ability to read, write and understand oral and written instructions and standardized recipes.
Customer service skills.
High school diploma/GED preferred.
One year of cooking or two years of food service training and/or experience preferred.
Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.
Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.
Job Specific Duties:
Directs the food preparation and serving of all meals for hospital patients, cafeteria patrons and catering events.
Follows appropriate approved menus and approved standardized recipes for regular and modified diets and non-select diets.
Uses appropriate portion control to provide adequate nutrients and help eliminate waste of food.
Makes appropriate food substitutions only as directed and approved by Supervisory Dietitian or Food Service Supervisor.
Serves all foods at appropriate time and temperature according to daily work schedule.
Keeps accurate daily records for:
Hot food temperatures per meal
Cold food temperatures per meal
Freezer and refrigerator temperature charts
Menu substitution lists.
Receives, checks in, and helps put away freight.
Provides direction to Nutritional Services department when Food Service Director, Food Service Coordinator and Lead Cook are not on duty.
Supervises dietary aides in food preparation and tray line service.
Assists in directing diet aides assigned to kitchen duties in food preparation and cleaning duties.
Responsible for accuracy and timeliness of tray line, including proper food temperatures.
Communicates with Food Service Director, Food Service Coordinator and Lead Cook and departments as well as dietary aides.
Maintain contact with Food Service Director, Food Service Coordinator and Lead Cook concerning menus, food/supplies, equipment, policies/procedures, regulations, problems and needs.
Courteous and responsive to other departments in regards to patients, and patron’s needs for food services.
Performs cleaning duties within the department.
Cleans immediate kitchen work area and keeps it clutter free and dust free.
Cleans kitchen equipment whenever it is used and stores in proper place after using.
Keeps accurate records on cleaning schedule appropriately for cleaning completed and submits record/checklist to Lead Cook as assigned.

Schedule:
Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
