CITY OF WOLF POINT Water / Waste Water Chief Operator in WOLF POINT, Montana

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: Under general direction, performs supervisory and technical work in the operation and maintenance of the water and wastewater system, including water treatment plant, water storage, sewage lift stations, distribution, metering and booster stations. Work is of some complexity and varies requiring individual judgment and decision making within established standards and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Must possess a Class II A Water Distribution System license, Class III B Water Treatment System license, and a Class III C Waste Water Treatment license; exposure to chemicals, acids, and infectious wastes. Possess a valid Montana Operator's License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Lifting up to l00lbs (greater with assistance); Physical demands include bending, stooping, crawling, climbing, and getting in and out of vehicles; Work in an uncontrollable environment of dampness, pollution, heat, and cold.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE: Supervises the operation of the water and wastewater distribution systems; may operate water treatment plants and aerated lagoon system; schedules daily operation and maintenance tasks including treatment, testing, and maintenance of the water and wastewater system, lift stations, distribution, park sprinkler system, and pools; assures chemical treatment meets established standards of quality; monitors groundwater quality and system infiltration; may operate medium to heavy equipment including sewer jets; subject to emergency calls and performs related tasks. Prepares State, Federal, and Local operational records of own activities and those of others assigned; assists in the preparation of department budget; oversees and uses equipment requiring care to assure against breakdown or deterioration; duties require substantial physical involvement including lifting weights of 100 lbs or more; work is often performed in outdoor surroundings in which noise, pollution, variable temperatures, dampness, and hazards are encountered; exposure to chemicals, acids, and infectious wastes; work performed often requires care and use of proper safety equipment and procedures to prevent injury; contact with fellow employees and the public is frequent.

SUPERVISION - RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS: Supervises skilled and semi-skilled employees of the water system.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from high school or its equivalent, and five years of experience in water and wastewater treatment and distribution systems. Possession of Class III B Water Treatment, Class III C Waste Water Treatment, and Class II A Water Distribution Licenses and shall maintain such certification with the State and update their education as may be required; possession of valid appropriate Montana's Operator's License.
